import duty not paid
Summary: deejayloa817 expressed concern about being asked to pay additional import duties for shoes shipped to Canada, despite having paid all initial charges. fullers_uk and mudshark61369 clarified that the extra fee was likely a customs clearance charge not covered initially. lacemaker3 confirmed that the listing indicated potential additional charges, suggesting deejayloa817 should pay them to avoid delivery issues. deejayloa817 sought reassurance about the legitimacy of the charges, and it was reiterated that such fees are typical when shipping internationally.
Hi. i paid for a shoe fully (including shipping and import charges) to be shipped to my brother in Ontario. The shoe has been confirmed okay but i got an email from DHL
"Payment of Import Duty and/or Tax and Customs Clearance Service Charges are still outstanding on your DHL Express shipment with waybill number 4597393721 from SKC3. The estimated amount is CAD 39.43.
To avoid any impact on delivery, please immediately pay us this amount securely online. Click here to pay, view the calculation and download the relevant documents"
What do i do?

OP2 weeks agoJust want to be sure the request is legit and normal before i make payment. I have bought shoes in the past while i was in canada and didnt have to make such payments

·2 weeks ago · EditedOf course you don't have to pay import charges if you purchase a pair of shoes in Canada, while you are in Canada at the time. That is not the same thing at all.
Import charges have to be paid when you purchase a pair of shoes that are not in Canada, and you have them imported to Canada after the purchase.
That's a different listing, but it also clearly states that you should expect to pay for customs processing and import charges. It doesn't say anywhere that the import charges were included, I don't know where you got that idea. The shoes were listed on eBay USA, in US$.
Yes, it is completely normal and legit to pay these charges, and it should have been expected.

·2 weeks agoIf it is the shoes @lacemaker3 points out, nowhere in that listing does it say duties were included in the shipping. It clearly states you may owe them later. Why do you think you paid them?

I paid all fees including shipping and now i understand the shoes is being shipped from the US to my brother in Canada. Am i expected to pay these DHL fees?

·2 weeks ago · Edited@deejayloa817 , are you asking about these Air Jordans? The seller left feedback for you for this item, which was sold Sept 14. It was your only feedback:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/168671174530?&nordt=true
That listing did not have shipping available with prepaid import fees. It says:
That shipping breaks down to $14.95 to the seller for domestic shipping, and then only $15.05 for the international shipping to your brother. That is not enough to include the import fees and the brokerage service fee.
I'm sorry about your misunderstanding, but you are responsible for paying the import fees into Canada, and the shoes will not be delivered until they are paid.
You should use the link provided by DHL and make the payment.
If your brother is going to send the shoes on to you, then they may possibly be able to send a request to have the import fees refunded, by providing proof that they were re-exported. I don't know any details about how to do that, or if it will be possible.

·2 weeks agoAre you 100% sure the AWB number was your AWB number? cos DHELL is often used to spoof.
With DHELL the sender can choose if they pay the duty and tariffs its called PDDP or did the ship it DDU all unpaid.
Curious, just one shoe, that may of confused the clearance agent as they are usually sold in pairs so may of thought the value was under declasred.

is located in Nigeria this being eBay's U.S. based site ebay.com they must have bought the item from a U.S. seller for shipment to Canada. Chances are the fee DHL is trying to collect is mentioned in the second part of the message "Tax and Customs Clearance Service Charges" which is their own fee not charged as part of the shipping price charged to the buyer. I ran into a similar situation with UPS when a package was sent to me in the U.S. from a Canadian seller. Things may be different for U.K. buyers and sellers.

·2 weeks agoYes clearance fees are billable here in the UK as well, didn’t realise this had a Nigeria dimension to it OP only half the facts.
