I thought Ebay International was going to take care of everything!!
What happened to mailing your item to the eBay hub, and they would take care of it from then on? Now they want information on where it was manufactured. I'm selling vintage jewelry, and I don't know where most of it was made. Ebay wants me to go through every listing and add the information. I knew it was too good to be true. If push comes to shove, I'm going to leave eBay International. I'm too busy running 2 stores.

·6 months agoI would say don't get stuck in that quagmire, they want a country name, and I would give them one, my best guess.

·7 months agoMy problem? eBay was practically begging us to enroll in their "you don't have to do anything" program. I enrolled, and now eBay wants us to fill out paperwork for each listing.

The origin of the piece would be of interest to the buyer in any case, I would think.
The better and more thorough the Description the more confident the customer will be.
I notice that when I list stamps, the Country of Origin (CoO) often fills automatically, with the exception of some countries that no longer exist.
On the other hand a Swaziland set, correctly changed the origin to Eskatini. Although that particular set was likely printed in Great Britain.
Do your best.

·7 months ago@wastingtime101 Unfortunately it appears that the COO field under item specifics is tied to the new COO field. This listing on eBay has filled in on my behalf that it is from Mexico. While the brand does make some tool pouches in Mexico, it makes them elsewhere, too. Given there was no tag or any other indication for me to know where this one was made, I left that field blank.

·7 months agoThanks again @christworks . I hadn't yet noticed that the 1st item specifics COO field was being auto-filled, only that the 2nd item origin COO field was being auto-filled. In fact, I saw the opposite - on some of my listings I saw the 2nd field was auto-filled while the 1st field was left blank.
I'm about to sign off, but I'll check out that other thread next week.
Has the eBay team been tagged in on this topic yet to get some answers?

Hey @a_c_green that's a great question. It's really just situationally dependent. This particular situation has had quite a lot of involvement from a lot of different people. So while there isn't an update yet that we can share, I can assure you and everyone that it is NOT falling on deaf ears.

·7 months ago@wastingtime101 The problem is that eBay has started filling in this information automatically if you leave it blank. They do not appear to do this for every item.
I went back and removed eBay's data on a handful of items. It was fine when I resaved the listing. I went back the next day and boom, they changed them again. This opens up the possibility of an INAD if a picky and savvy buyer catches on that the country of origin may not be correct. I've not de-enrolled from eIS yet, but I may have to do that if eBay keeps making changes that I did not approve.

·7 months agoThank you for that info @christworks . I did not realize eBay was re-filling the data after sellers delete it for being inaccurate when they do not know the COO.
I wouldn't worry about the possibility of buyer claims because I do not think that secondary COO field (under item origin below shipping settings) is visible to the buyer. The only COO field visible to the buyer is the one in the item specifics section.
The bigger concern is eBay filling in erroneous data, then there are potential problems with shipping (tariffs / customs / etc). If it's eIS, eBay should handle that fallout, so I don't know if sellers need to be concerned here.
As for direct shipping - with direct international shipping the seller needs to know COO and fill it out on the customs form themself and they have control to change any prefilled entry by eBay. If they don't know the COO then they shouldn't be offering direct international shipping in the first place.

For others' clarity, we are discussing the secondary COO field in the "Item origin" section below the shipping settings on the listing form as shown below.
This field is different from the COO field in item specifics. Buyers only have visibility to the field in item specifics, as shown below.

·6 months agoThat would irritate the bleep out of me, but it reminds me of how you can delete one of eBay's spam messages and the next day it'll be back in the inbox unopened/unread, only the zombie messages are no where near as possibly detrimental as eBay's creepy bots altering information after you've manually entered or altered it already.

·7 months agoCountry of Origin (manufacture) is required to fill out customs forms. eBay can't guess where your items were made, and neither should you.
If you don't know, leave it blank, and the items may not qualify for eIS. No big deal. No need to opt out.
Just fill in the info when you have it and leave it blank when you don't.
