I know a lot of you already know this. But for those that don’t
I see a lot of posts on these boards complaining about postage adjustments and swearing that the adjustment is unjustified instead of following through on the appeal process. Maybe they just don't know how. You CAN get it corrected.
First I get this
The shipping carrier has notified us that the package they transported was different than what you entered when purchasing the shipping label:
Dimensions changed from 15x10x10 to 15x14.76x10 inches
Weight changed from 3 lbs to 14 lbs
-$7.59 Charge
An appeal was filed as the box was in fact a 15x10x10 box at 3 pounds.
Then I get this
Great news! USPS approved the adjustment dispute you filed on 9/12/24 for $7.59.
Have faith.

·1 year agoALL of my USPS adjustments are in my favor.
It's UPS and FedEx that are out of control

·1 year agoI used UPS a few times but will never use them again! Their real rates are different than what they show on ebay. They have hidden overcharge so no matter how you appeal they never approve!
Be aware! Don't use this one!

·1 year agoThis just happened to me for the first time. USPS charged me - through ebay - for someone elses package/tracking number that was more than double the weight of my package. SO Be sure to check the tracking number you are being charged for if this happens to you. I am appealing via the usps email provided,
but am pretty annoyed that USPS always finds new ways to screw up at the consumers expense.

·1 year agoJust follow the links in the message from ebay. It will give you a number to call or you can file the appeal by email. Email only takes a minute or two.
I also thought it was great won multiple appeals. The last one, not so much. I got the email from USPS saying the case was closed and results sent to ebay problem was ebay never credited my account. So I appealed the case two more times and got the same result. I then called USPS about it and was told it was up to ebay now. I tried the ebay chat got an agent named **bleep**z, seriously, just got the big run around total waste of time at least the agent lived up to their name. After that I just dropped it I had invested all the time I was going to for $10.
I will still appeal everyone I get, it's to easy not to.

·1 year agoI will say.
In your example you used pirateship and pirateship makes it much easier to file dispute adjustments.
The process is much more transparent and the customer service actually are trained to understand shipping issues unlike the eBay cs reps.

Dealing with one. Guessing they put a flat rate on top of my box was a uline box. Haha.

·1 year agoUSPS is great at fixing postal adjustments and even will credit you if you pay too much.
UPS and FedEx are different stories.
The account holder for these is eBay so UPS and FedEx require eBay to appeal.
UPS and FedEx also have many extra charges.
UPS and FedEx are usually where the complaints come from.

I haven't used UPS since the advent of cubic pricing ground advantage However, a couple of years ago I did get a UPS adjustment through Pirateship. I filed an appeal on PS and it was successful. So apparently using UPS on PS avoids the whole "eBay needs to file" problem.

·1 year ago@richard1rst PS is a lot easier to work with on adjustments than eBay, you are correct.
I would only use UPS or FedEx through my own account or PS.

·1 year agoIs the appeal filed at the USPS website?

·1 year agoYou can find cost adjustment details on this page: https://www.ebay.com/ship/lmng
Cost adjustments happen all the time. It's a pain in the ass, but it's easy to appeal. Send USPS an email verifypostagehelp@usps.gov with the following details (or you can call the number on the USPS page linked below):
In order for USPS to investigate your dispute they must have the following information:
I generally describe the problem, as well. Shipped 8 oz t-shirt in plain white polymailer with eBay logo, was up charged based on a Priority Flat Rate Envelope packaging which was not used.
Educated guess: packages sometimes get stuck together or are too close together when going through the sorting machinery so the scans are reading a different package. When you file an appeal, USPS will look at the actual photos taken during sorting and they will see the package and grant the refund.
USPS sends the refund to your original source of payment (credit card, bank, eBay funds, paypal, etc).

UPS / FedEx have an entirely different process.
There are many surcharges with UPS and FedEx that are not factored in until the carrier physically reviews the package.

You can find guides for all carriers on eBay Seller Center under "preventing shipping label price adjustments."
https://www.ebay.com/sellercenter/shipping/preparing-your-shipment/packaging-and-measuring
In order to help sellers determine if their cost adjustment was legit or in error (and how to appeal), view the label details and expand the section on the bottom right that says see cost breakdown (highlighted below in green). Black out order #, tracking #, and buyer ID and post a screenshot.
A lot of the charges are legit as outlined in the carrier guides, but the ones that aren't have to be appealed through eBay customer service. When you buy the labels using eBay's account, only eBay can dispute the charge.

OP1 year agoIn my case I use Pirateship. PS sends me a note that the back charge has been made. I then open the shipment in question on my PS page and there is a button "appeal". Click that and follow the prompts.
I was under the impression that when eBay sends a similar not there was a link in the note to appeal by responding directly to the note - unless that has changed.
