I got charged a lot extra by Fedex after item was delivered
Summary: thegiant_5373 shared an experience of being overcharged by FedEx for shipping a bicycle, with an initial estimate of $89 eventually costing $325 due to incorrect box size estimation. Several participants noted this is a common issue, particularly with Dimensional Weight Pricing affecting cost. Suggestions included selling locally to avoid additional charges and using services like BikeFlights for possible discounts. Concerns were raised about eBay’s shipping calculator not accounting for surcharges, leading to unexpected price adjustments. Accurate measurement of the box was emphasized as vital to avoiding cost discrepancies.
I recently shipped a bicycle from MT to NM. the fee was 89$. no complaints. now I was charged 325$ because Fedex says the box size I estimated was different sized than the bicycle box I shipped it in. has anyone else had this happen??

·3 weeks agoDid you not measure the box? Do you know the size box you used? Did you purchase the box and have a receipt for it stating the size?
Most any commercial box purchased the measurements stated are for the inside measurements. For accurate measurements you would round up the outside of the box measurements to the next inch. This can be a huge difference sometimes in shipping cost.

OP3 weeks agoI guessed the size of a bicycle box. The one I shipped was like 3 in longer and 2 in wider.

·3 weeks agoYou are not the first, nor will you be the last, to mention how expensive FedEx is to ship a bicycle - when you ship a bike Dimensional Weight Pricing kicks in due to the size of the box, and oversized charges are applied.
Dimensional Weight Pricing: FedEx calculates costs based on box volume, not just the actual weight of the bicycle.
Oversize Thresholds: Packages exceeding 105 inches in combined length and girth trigger severe FedEx Additional Handling Fees.
Automated Scanning: Laser scanners at FedEx hubs measure the box in motion, catching even a 1-inch variance or a bulging cardboard side.
Same applies to the vast majority of shipping services, the only discount comes in when you use BikeFlights or Shipbikes.
As suggested - Local Pick-Up only or sell on Marketplace.

·3 weeks agoWe hear about this a lot. The Dim Weight, however , plays a large roll in that increased cost, so if that is over stated by FedEx that can get expensive and be the bigger issue. What was the weight and size of the box you entered?

·3 weeks agoEbay's fedex shipping calculator does not include any surcharge in its calculation and should never be used for any reason.

·3 weeks ago · EditedThat is a good point you have.
I don't think eBay should be offering any shipping services that they are not able to give accurate cost based on your accurate measurements and accurate weights.
I see often someone complaining about price adjustment after purchasing their shipping label and shipper receiving item.

·3 weeks agoWe hear that a LOT on here with sellers shipping bicycles. There are a lot of items that should be sold locally for cash and a bicycle is probably one of them.
