How to get refund for item damaged in shipment via Fedex Ground

I shipped item . The buyer reported that the item was damaged and returned the item ot us for a refund.
On examining the returned item, it became apparent that the item had become damaged in shipping Fedex Ground transport.
More specifically, the seal on the product had loosened probably due to rough handling of the package causing some leakage
of the liquid content.
I wish to make a claim for the value of the item as damaged in shipping leading to the buyer returning the item for a refund.
I have been unsuccessful in filing a claim for the $49.99 from FedEx Ground.
How can I go about filing this claim?
