High shipping prices
I don’t understand how a pair of earrings costs $10 when a jacket costs $8? A high shipping price will persuade me to not buy the item and move on. This seems to happen a lot with costume jewelry items. I’m not talking about precious jewelry. And not talking about fragile items.

·1 year agoNot all sellers “pad†their mailing price to keep extra for themselves.
As a seller I've had trouble with ebay’s calculator UNDER charging for mailing cost, causing me to lose a few dollars EVERY sale….and I use 2 scales to double check the package weight!
I began over estimating the package weight by just a little with much better results.
After mailing the item, if ebay had overcharged the buyer I simply refund that overcharge.
It’s very easy to issue a partial refund & state the buyer will be refunded in BOLD in my listing.
Thankfully, I have 100% seller FB.

·1 year agoIt just means the earrings seller is making lots of profit from shipping.I sell lots of earrings on occasion with shipping of$5.85.

·1 year agoShipping has gotten expensive......really expensive. I do agree and you should always look at the total cost when deciding to make a purchase. A little searching can often save money.
But shipping is dang expensive. Also some sellers enter incorrect size and or weight and " gag " on the cost when they see it.

·1 year agoAs far as the Jacket price at $8 shipping cost I am going with what stainlessengine said. I have encountered this problem with a lot of sellers I dealt with. The seller charged you much less than what it costs them. It is most likely done by error. I get a bunch of cancellations or asking for more money on shipping due to this issue.

·1 year agoDepends on where the seller is compared to where you are, if they are using 'calculated' shipping.
I say, the 'Jacket' seller has messed up because almost NO jacket should ship ANYWHERE for $8.
A 'jacket' shipping for $8 means the seller is close to you (1 state over max) or they have NO CLUE how ebay works and don't bother inputting the correct weight/dimensions. Some of those sellers then come back to the buyer (they're not supposed to, but happens all the time) wanting MORE $$ to ship because they didn't do it right (although they'll blame this site)
$10 means this:
Seller gets $8.50
Minimum Shipping Label with tracking is $4.50 (roughly). Packing materials, bubble envelope, tape, label- $2?
So now the seller is getting a whopping $2 to actually 'pull/pack/seal/label' the item
Not too much to ask.

·1 year agoI search by total cost and never bother looking at the break down between cost/shipping.

·1 year agoSeller working some of the profit into the shipping/handling end of the deal to keep the asking price of the item lower to be competitive which of course does not work when a buyer shops by total cost.
If you see shipping prices that are too high for your wallet then by all means hit the back button.
But know that eBay charges sellers fees for the price of the item plus shipping plus sales tax.
I'm going to take a wild guess that the seller of the jewelry is not the same seller selling the jacket.

·1 year agoThe total cost is what it all comes down to for me. ($100 Free shipping or $80 item with $20 shipping is the same to me -$100) That being said, I may question how well the seller may safely pack the item if the shipping charges are low on a fragile item.
