·8 months agoHi @carcalf . You can read up on this Minnesota state tax and how it works here:
https://www.revenue.state.mn.us/retail-delivery-fee
On marketplaces like eBay, eBay collects the fee from the buyer and remits it to the state of Minnesota. The seller does not receive those funds (though the seller does pay eBay fees on the funds since it's part of the total amount the buyer paid).

·8 months agoA number of states have started taxing deliveries. With more people shopping on line, the tax collector has to go where the money is.

If you are a buyer in Minnesota, that fee was passed by the Minnesota legislature in July 2024 -- it applies to all package deliveries in excess of $100.00.
Colorado and Texas also have passed similar laws in the recent past -- and more states will probably add identical fees in the future.
By the way -- the fee is paid by the buyer -- not the seller.

·8 months agoFor the first time, I have this retail delivery fee on something I sold today and it looks to me as though the buyer is charged but that amount is deducted from the sellers payout. Am I confused?

·8 months agowhere is the top section of that screenshot?
(where it says what your buyer paid) would guess that (just like sales tax) is included in that $28.90.
so it is.....

Your buyer pays the state's (Colorado?) delivery fee -- but that extra 28 cents DOES impact the Final Value Fee paid by the seller (but not very much).

·8 months agoThank you for your response. Just surprised me to see the fee so had to consult the Community.

·8 months agoSome states have passed laws recently that add a fee to online purchases. This is a fee that ebay is legally required to charge people living in/ having packages delivered in those states.
Ebay had no say in that matter. You should google your state and "road improvement and food delivery fee" and it will tell you all about it and where the funds (supposedly) go.
