Hazmat $50 - I do i challenge
I cannot get anywhere to talk to anyone about a $50 fee. The device i shipped does not have a SDS or safety data sheet - so who is in charge of leveraging this fee?
$100 sale, $20 fees, and $50 hazmat - this is crap.

·1 month agoWhat did you ship? Was there possibly any kind of leftover hazmat marking on the box? eBay can't help you, I don't mean that in a snarky way just a literal one, eBay agents don't have the power to overrule the USPS.
Doing a quick search it says there is a way to appeal directly on eBay's site, the same as doing an APV appeal over weight or dimensions of a package. Are you seeing the hazmat fine on your list of USPS adjustments?

·1 month agoOn July 12, 2026, the postal service officially rolled out a mandatory $50 Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) non-compliance fee. This fee is automatically triggered and charged back to commercial shipping accounts (like eBay, Mercari, Poshmark, or Pirate Ship) if a package contains hazardous materials but was not properly declared and labeled during the shipping checkout process.
Your device does not need a formal Safety Data Sheet (SDS) to trigger the fee. The USPS enforces this penalty based on two specific triggers:
If your device contains a built-in lithium-ion battery (like a cell phone, laptop, smart watch, or power tool), it is legally classified as HAZMAT by the Department of Transportation and USPS. If you printed a standard label without checking the required "Hazardous Materials/Lithium Battery" box on your selling platform, the USPS automated sorting machinery (which uses X-rays and scanners) flags the package and issues the $50 fine.
If you shipped a completely harmless device but reused an old cardboard box that still had a surface-only, lithium battery, or limited quantity sticker printed on it, the USPS automated scanners will instantly trigger the $50 non-compliance charge regardless of what is inside the box.

OP1 month agoi am aware of the first part - there is no hazardous label. there is no battery. there is no mercury. I want to challenge this and i cannot through to any version of "contacting ebay"
The decision was made by someone and i want to challenge it.

·1 month agoGo to the Post Office.
USPS implemented it.
Has nothing to do with anyone at ebay that could help you (even if they did have reps)
