Ground Advantage Saves the day
I sell mainly media and have realized that media is not always cheaper then ground advantage. Recently had a box that I sold to a customer and the Post Office destroyed the shipping box. The put the media in another box without padding and everything inside was destroyed. I refunded the customer. I have put in a claim with the PO. They are pulling their normal stuff but I have all the proof I need. One would think the letter they put on the outside would be enough. Regardless check the difference between media mail and ground advantage. Sometimes its less or really close to what you are paying media. Instead of being out 130 bucks I am only out 30.

·2 years agoThe handling which media and ground get is comparable.
Any advantage in avoiding damage is the lower time in the hands of USPS.
In spite of that, I am usually willing to pay a little more for GA. I charge a fixed price for shipping an my monthly shipping charges are always higher than my shipping costs.

·2 years agoThat's an interesting situation, and I wondered what would happen under those circumstances, and now I know. I go by price point - an expensive book I'll ship ground advantage, but cheaper books I go with media mail, and I'll just stick to that.
I've noticed media mail isn't the bargain it used to be.

OP2 years agoIts actually not. On heavier items I have noticed that ground is more then often cheaper by a few dollars. The same can be said for items closer to you. Ground is more then likely cheaper then Media. I will pay ground prices even if it is 3 cents more which can happen. Its pretty crazy because I dont understand how ground prices are found half of the time. Sometimes I can ship to Maine from California cheaper Ground then I can Media.

·2 years agoIt depends on the weight of the item as well as the destination which determines the cost of shipping. Sometimes Ground Advantage is a few cents cheaper sometimes not.
It makes no difference if the item destroyed was being sent Media Mail, Ground Advantage or Priority if the packing gets damaged sometimes the PO will put a note like you posted sometimes they don't. Several months ago I received a package that was torn open void of its contents, no note from the PO at all. I guess it just depends on the PO.
