Ground Advantage Prices INCORRECT on eBay for Packages UNDER 1 lb
Ebay's shipping calculator does not work for Ground Advantage packages that weigh UNDER one pound.
USPS rates for what was previously first class package -- now Ground Advantage -- are, according to USPS, unchanged. See their rates here (click on Ground Advantage--Retail). The most you will pay for a 4 oz package is $5.25. And as you can see in the table, that price is based on weight and zone (not dimensions).
But when I was just tying to list a 4oz item, selecting Ground Advantage gave me a price of a whopping $6.99! That is not correct. I started adjusting the dimensions just for yucks, and discovered the calculator was charging higher prices for the 4 oz item when I increased the dimensions. (Remember, dimensions are not supposed to change the price of a 4 oz item--and the cost is not supposed to be higher than $5.25--but I was being given prices beyond $12 for a 4 oz item).
I called eBay and the first guy brushed me off entirely, insisting the price/calculator is correct. I asked to speak with a supervisor. The supervisor told he knew nothing at all about Ground Advantage or how shipping even works. He then argued with me that I was wrong and the shipping calculator is correct.. and he kept repeating that with USPS you can't ship anything over a certain dimension (which has absolutely nothing to do with anything I told him). He simply could not understand what I was saying, continued arguing with me that the price of a 4 oz item is based on the dimensions. I ended up hanging up.
I don't know what else to do. Ebay staff has clearly not been trained on Ground Advantage, so there's no use calling them. They can't comprehend the information I'm giving them, and just continue to blow it off. The bottom line: I cannot list any items until their prices/calculator is fixed. And I recommend you don't, either.

·3 years agoThe calculator is working correctly. The problem is USPS Ground Advantage doesn't start until July 9th. After that date USPS 1st Class Package/USPS Parcel Select and USPS Retail Ground all merge into a new service called USPS Ground advantage and the new rates kick in.

OP3 years agoThere is no "new rate" for packages under one pound. There's nothing to "kick in." As I've said -- rates for packages under one pound do not change. USPS is charging the same rate today as they will charge next week. The calculator is NOT working properly. A 4 oz item will never cost $6.99 to ship - not today, and not July 9. It is incorrect.

The Ground Advantage you see in the calculator is NOT the Ground Advantage you will see on the 9th

·3 years agoThe 4-ounce package does cost $6.99 today, if you choose "Parcel Select Ground/Ground Advantage" as the shipping service, because that is today's price for 4 ounces via Parcel Select Ground. Starting on Sunday, 4 ounces will show the new rates, which match the current rates for online First Class packages (and for retail are the same for weight brackets up to 12 ounces).
P.S. I misspoke in a post above, and mentioned "tomorrow" as the start for the new rates. I feel terrible about possibly adding to the confusion. Of course the new rates start on July 9 which is Sunday. I'm afraid I haven't been clear about what day of the week it is, ever since the kids got out of school

·3 years agoThe change doesn't go into effect until 7/9.......there fore the rates won't be changed until then............

OP3 years agoThere is not supposed to be any change for packages less than a pound. So--again--the rates for packages UNDER one pound are UNCHANGED. So the rate today would be the same as the rate on July 9. Same. No change.
The rates in the shipping calculator are wrong. If you sell an item under one pound today, you will be charged as high as double the shipping cost.

And this makes sense to me. This is what I think is true. That said, there is no option--at all--to send a package under one pound and be charged correctly. So that part doesn't makes sense. They have removed the "first class package" option entirely, and the only option is Parcel Select/Ground Advantage. It can't be that there is no way to send a package under one pound, with the correct pricing.

The buyers paid for 1st Class and I printed a 1st Class label.
Maybe try Pirateship if the eBay shipping isnt working.

I also, just made a new listing and was able to select first class as an option for calculated shipping?
...just trying to help here.....
Where have they "removed" the first class option?

OP3 years agoI've been selling on ebay for 20 years and I assure you there is absolutely no first class package shipping option on my end (a new listing - I'm not referring to a sold item). Now I'm wondering if maybe this is a glitch affecting only some sellers.

·3 years agoYeah, that really threw a wrench into things. Fortunately we're less than 48 hours out so hopefully sellers that aren't worrying about this change until it actually happens won't be looking too closely and get confused like the OP here and several others that have posted today.

·3 years agoIt's shameful that ebay hasn't put out instructions, or help of any kind, that I have seen to help sellers with this. It makes me believe they don't know how to help. All I've seen are posts telling us we just have to do it with no explanations at all--especially as to why our 1st class can't be automatically converted for us just as parcel select will be. Only our fellow knowledgeable posters are trying to come up with help for everyone.
