·5 months agoI wonder if they will ask for their temporary holiday fee increase October thru January? This 8% surcharge is effective thru January 2027. I will be changing my G.A. shipping fee to $5.99 for single cards (over $20). Some here complain about using ESE's for cards under $20 but shipping fees are getting ridiculous now.

·5 months agoI filled up my truck 2 weeks ago when gas here was $3.199 / gal. My cost for 15.317 gallons was only $23.65.

·5 months agoGood catch @stainlessenginecovers. I see someone's on the ball and paying attention! I was just curious to see if anyone would question how I only paid $1.54 per gallon.
Actually the initial cost was $49. I left out my redeemed perks of $25.65 to arrive at my $23.65 stated amount.

·5 months agoIt's not been stable. In fact, world oil prices--and, hence, fuel prices--plummeted in the early stages of the pandemic.

·5 months agoThe USPS fuel charge has been approved by the USPS board of governors but must still be approved by the PRC (Postal Regulatory Commission). It is scheduled to take affect 4/26/26 and affects Priority, Priority Express, Ground Advantage and Parcel Select. The proposed increase is 8% in addition to the actual mailing rate. Perhaps eBay execs have time to negotiate or be exempted from this increase which we enjoy an already drastically reduced rate. ·5 months agoFrom what I read USPS want's to run it from 4/26/27 to Jan 2027 , My guess is they think the Orange Blob 45/47 will be out of the illegal war with Iran before then or by then .

·6 months agoAs a seller, I don't absorb any of these costs, they just get added on to the overall cost of items. Fuel cost surcharges are constantly adjusted on to freight costs, we will see those passed long. They get broken down on our FedEx bills and change all the time.
We are in a tough economy right now, lots of uncertainty. I'm not paying more, or even buying items I don't need. And I can afford most things I cut out. But I do need gas and food...and gas for me is over $5/gl

·6 months agoFuel prices stable for 10 years? I live in a state with social programs for it seems everything under the sun. If the price of fuel drops the politicians here just tax it more. I guess that could be seen as stable prices............

In the past 3 weeks or so, here in NE Ohio, gas has cycled back and forth between about $2.79/gal and $3.17/gal currently.

·6 months agoCourier companies use hedge fund to help keep there fuel prices stable, it less likely there fuel cost will rise instantly and more a case they can introduce a fuel surcharge because they know we are expecting them to do and it will increase there profits.

·6 months agoBest to fill up every chance you get. I filled up yesterday and plan to get more fuel tomorrow. With a war going on, prices will definitely be higher.

Couriers, trucking companies and some postal services have been adding a fuel surcharge for years. Remember them back in the 80'ies/90ies with work. They were supposed to be temporary. Because you don't see a real breakdown of ebay label charges you don't get to see them. According the USPS website this is what shows.
USPS
The United States Postal Service (USPS) generally does not apply a separate, fluctuating fuel surcharge on most domestic mail or standard shipping services, unlike major private carriers such as UPS and FedEx. Instead, fuel costs are typically built into the base postage rates, providing more price stability for customers.
UPS
UPS applies a variable fuel surcharge to shipments based on weekly fluctuations in U.S. Gulf Coast (USGC) diesel and jet fuel prices. These surcharges are added to base transportation rates and specific accessorial charges, such as delivery area fees or additional handling. Rates are updated weekly and applied as a percentage of the total shipping cost.
The applied % for fuel surcharges and shipping in Canada is very high...Less for anything going to the USA. We will have to see going forward how much they get adjusted but if this "interaction" goes on for very long it could have a major affect to shipping costs....for anything going anywhere.

·6 months agoGasoline prices are also going up. I filled up the cars a couple of days ago, and prices jumped $0.20 per gallon in just one day.

·6 months ago@imac7065 I assume they are talking about the price at the pump, which has increased dramatically for many this week as the price of a barrel of oil has risen from around $66/barrel prior to Saturday to peaking (so far) at about $81/barrel. It is sitting at about $79.63 now.
I paid $2.19/gallon when I filled up on Friday. That station is closed over the weekend. When they reopened Monday, they went to $2.89. Today they went to $3.29.
The OP is connecting the sudden increase in fuel to possible surcharges from the carriers, especially UPS and FedEx. I do not expect any changes from USPS in the near-term, but when they do raise prices later this year, it may be a steeper increase if the price of crude does not come back down.

The only part I take issue in all this is that eBay does not display it when/where it is applicable. (Shipping tube surcharges as another example.) Just like when a postal courier charge is revised and seller gets revised bill without an explanation.
Not condoning Stub Hub but at least with them any "mystery" charges are displayed on your bill.

·6 months agoFuel has not been stable in Northern New England.
It has been very expensive for the past 5 years.
New England has been cut off from the abundance of oil in this country by nearby states refusing to allow pipelines and the Jones Act limiting shipments from US ports to US ports to US owned ships (of which there are few), requiring us to pay for imported fuel.
Even before the current Middle Eastern troubles, there has been a shortage of propane, gas comes in from abroad as LNG and oil travels by truck and train.
I feel your pain, but it is a lot smaller than ours.
