FedEx shipping charges
I had to pay a LOT of EXTRA shipping $$$$ for the way I packaged 3 items I sent to the buyers - The buyers paid shipping charges - I dropped off the items at FedEx and they never told me the items were not packaged in a standard way - They never said a word about the way I packed the shipments - Then, AFTER the items were delivered they send me over $125 in extra shipping charges for "non standard" packaging - Why was I not informed when I dropped off the items at FedEx I would need to pay extra $$$ - This is a SCAM by FedEx - The BUYERS gave me positive feedback for the way I packaged the items because the items were protected so well - I'm NOT a HAPPY ebay seller !!!! EBAY - You need to get involved with this FedEx SCAM

·5 months agoWe received a very large 'extra' charge from FedEx for non-standard packing a while ago.
We were using their service often, but we have not shipped anything via FedEx since.

·5 months agoJust like any other carrier, they take your package, scan the label and send it on its way. Then they let their audit system handle any adjustments in transit. It's not on the carrier to review each of your packages and check if your label had the correct weight, dimensions, irregular declaration, etc. Pretty much the only thing they ask about upfront is hazmat, and other than that you're on your own to make sure you purchased the correct label.
eBay's label system does allow you to select irregular on the listing form so the buyer pays the correct rate, and select it on the label page so you buy the correct label. eBay built those tools for sellers.
eBay also published a help page about package types so you can learn how to classify your package. There are other help pages with this info, too. Even the page where you purchase the label has links to the carrier website so you can get info direct from FedEx. eBay puts all the info out there. They cannot force you to read it.

·5 months agoI have read it. Did you read the eBay package type help page I linked above? It's very clear on what's classified as non-standard, and it links to the relevant FedEx service guide page for more details, to boot.

·5 months agoIt's unfortunately not a scam. Ebay isn't the carrier so there really isn't much they can do. You purchased the label through FedEx. They have certain standards for packaging. When dropping off the package you are not dealing with the people in charge of transport just drop off. You may want to consider using USPS instead.

OP5 months agoEbay has made an "agreement" with FedEx - it absolutely is an Ebay issue - FedEx tells me contact Ebay - Ebay tells me contact FedEx - PROOF this is a SCAM - it's Ebay's responsibility to fix this !!! It profits FedEx !!

·5 months agoDoesn't matter FedEx is the carrier. You are paying FedEx for the your label which Ebay is providing you. FedEx is charging you the adjustment once in transit not Ebay. Ebay has nothing to do with the adjustment charge nor the transit. Ebay only goes by tracking. That's all Ebay deals with is tracking.

OP5 months agoNegative - I just spoke with our regional FedEx customer rep here where I work - we have a multi million dollar FedEx shipping account - his answer is contact Ebay - they set the terms of the agreement with FedEx - same reason FedEx customer support told me to contact Ebay - Ebay administrates the agreement with Fedex -these shipping charges through ebay are unique to ebay's agreement with FedEx

·5 months agoeBay will only dispute the charge with FedEx if it's believed to be an erroneous charge. They're not going to dispute a legit charge that was applied because you didn't declare irregular package upfront.
You'd be facing the same charge if you went to the FedEx website and bought the label direct through them. You're responsible for entering correct package weight / dim / non-standard declaration, etc.

OP5 months agoSorry, but you are WRONG - FedEx confirmed that ebay has a "special agreement" with FedEx for reduced shipping charges - call FedEx - they will confirm that the charges you pay to ship through ebay are NOT THE SAME as if you walk into Fedex and ship the same package yourself (not thru ebay).

But buying the label online from the FedEx website is the same. The info I provided is correct. On the post you're replying to I said, "You'd be facing the same charge if you went to the FedEx website and bought the label direct through them. You're responsible for entering correct package weight / dim / non-standard declaration, etc."
If you bought the same label online from FedEx.com as you did on eBay, failing to declare nonstandard packaging, you'd be facing the same cost adjustment.
If you don't want to be bothered learning about shipping, learning what qualifies as nonstandard, etc then your options are to buy the discounted label online and face cost adjustments for any potential errors, or walk into a FedEx and pay the inflated retail rate and know you won't see cost adjustments because the store clerk will have charged you upfront for nonstandard if/when applicable. The choice is yours - do whatever you like - it's your business.

OP5 months agoMany ebay sellers have had these charges reversed through ebay - do a search about this topic and see for yourself - clearly you feel you are an expert on this topic so I encourage you to contact ebay and lend your assistance to managing their fedex account

Just like UPS, Ebay doesn't control what the carriers charge.
You're right, some sellers have had the charges reversed, you'll just have to go through Ebay to do it.
