FedEx mistakenly changed weight causing $450 increase in cost of shipping
Hello all!
I recently got a notification that after shipping a PC to a customer, that FedEx updated a shipping label weight for some reason. I'm not sure how to handle this. The weight was nowhere near the original weight of the package.

·10 months agoSometimes, the horrid way that FEDEX Ground handles packages alters the dimension of the package.
Other times a seller buys a new box of a specified size and that size is the interior dimension of the box, which is not what carriers use in their rate calculations.
Sometime FEDEX's dimension scan includes another box in proximity to your shipment.
I do not buy from any seller who ships via FEDEX Ground other than Ebay supplies. I hate their poor handling practices and the way they manage their contractors who deliver.

·10 months agoHi @labe_123137 . Billable weight is based on whichever is higher - actual weight or dimensional weight. In your case, the carrier says your dimensions were off, and the higher dimensions are impacting the billable weight.
So the question is: are your 20x20x20 dimensions accurate or are the carrier's 29x30x29 dimensions correct?
If your dimensions are accurate then you'll have to contact eBay customer service to dispute the adjustment.
If your dimensions were wrong and FedEx dimensions are correct, then the adjustment is legit and this was an expensive lesson.

·10 months agoFedex is the worst for that. When a package becomes over sized, the cost goes through the roof. Packages that are over sized get billed for that weight even if they are lighter.
Many people won't ship Fedex out of fear that will happen. Some have been charged over a thousand dollars. It's like they don't want home shipments but don't want to just come out an say that. So, they do this to scare off people?

·10 months agoThat size, 29 x 30 x 29 goes by dimensional weight, and that is over 150#. I actually show it as 180#, so it looks like you were billed for an additional 152#. What was the true package OD? Even a 20 x 20 x 20 will be billed at 58# regardless of the actual weight.
Btw, its stupid a shipping company like FedEx calls a box 29 x 30 x 29. If you actually had a box that size, it wouldn't close up correctly...the true size is 30 x 29 x 29

·10 months agoThe first and biggest error seems to be your size. You say 20x20x20 they say 29x30x29
You need to do some serious research on "dimensional weight".
The SIZE of the package is frequently far more important than the weight.
