FedEx label adjustments...i think they're stealing again with overcharging

I've noticed that (almost) every time i use Fedex, i get an additional charge. I'm not sure if its the drop-off location or somewhere internal, but this is the 3rd time in my last few shipments with them. It may be another situation where they issue mass refunds again...or a local thing. Im not sure, but it seems to be a problem with them :(

·3 weeks agoI've have the FedEx corporate account where I pay $40 for a light ground shipment with the "corporate" discounts not amounting to any real benefit. They are a lot more expensive than usps priority on lighter packages. The only reason people are using FedEx is that when it comes up, their price is less. Then they zap customers for a few ounce differential with whopping extra charges.

OP3 weeks agoI normally use USPS , but the distribution center in eastern washington was seriously delayed due to the wildfires recently, so I used fedex again :(
I had a customer waiting almost 2weeks for their item...

·3 weeks ago · Edited@compositelab The screen shot that you provided above clearly shows where YOUR error occurred. It wasn't the weight. It was the dimensions of the box that you entered. No box is ever an even 16x16x16. You did not input the actual dimensions of the box so there was the additional $5.32 charge.
Nothing underhanded at all.
People who use FedEx or UPS MUST actually measure their outside dimensions of their boxes and NEVER use the printed dimensions. Printed dimensions are generally the inside measurements. The shipping services use the outside dimensions to determine charges.
Once sellers understand those rules they will almost never get an additional charge. As I have stated many times. I use FedEx or UPS almost daily over the last 3 years and have never had an additional charge.
There are certainly some horror stories out there that are difficult to explain. But those even happen with the USPS.

Anyway,, shippers shouldn't have to "go over" the measurements on a package of boxes or even say the box is heavier than it really is....PERIOD

·3 weeks agoEBAY is the problen..they have to correct their agremments with fed ex in posting the shipment prices..charged @2X's on a shipment already paid to ebay.Ebay rep is NO HELP..THEY JUSY DON'T GET IT

·3 weeks agoYou get one rebate on the whopping charges according to the ebay rep I spoke to yesterday. Paypal does not do business with FedEx!!! That needs to ring some alarm bells. It comes out as cash out of your ebay funds!

·3 weeks agoThis might be part of your issue. I would venture that there is no box that truly measures 16x16x16 even if that is printed on the box. I have always gone 1 inch over what is on the boxes and have yet to get a charge adjustment from FedEx. I also ship several boxes every week with FedEx over the last few years.
The other issue might be dimensional weight. Once you get over 12x12 x12 the actual weight is often not what fedEx uses.

·2 weeks agoYou cannot use the printed measurements on the box. So yes. You do have to go over the stated measurements.

·3 weeks agoI called ebay customer service on the FedEx scam. When I went to FedEx with a box to pack something up, "Al" grapped it out of my hands and said he would do it, charged me nearly $20 to box it. Then FedEx slams me with extra charges for an accurately packed package with proper size and weight paid. This has happened to me twice now in less than a month!
I'm filing with the state consumer protection agency which is tough with their legal department. I've never lost a case yet.

·3 weeks agoMy recommendation is to use USPS Ground Advantage instead of FedEx. There has been many complaints daily about FedEx adjustment charges.

·3 weeks agoFedEx is playing games with customers. Are UPS customers getting the same type of complaints? Attorneys general in the states can smell a rat a mile away and will not stand still as FedEx abuses the rules and common sense standards.

·3 weeks agoYes we get a bunch of UPS adjustment complaints as well. So far nothing has happen legally in regards to this issue.

·3 weeks agoWhat state are you in? In Texas, Florida, NH, etc. you'll be out of luck. In CA, NY, CT, MA and some other states the attorney generals are quite good in pursuing this type of questionable over-charging.

·3 weeks ago@nutmegnumismatics Particularly in this case the shipping companies will no problem defending the extra charges. The seller absolutely put in the wrong box dimensions thus resulting in the surcharge. Look at the screen shot the seller used. It clearly shows the wrong dimensions had been entered. I would guess that the majority of these case are for that reason. Too many people use the printed box dimensions for figuring out charges.

·3 weeks agoMany sellers are rigorous on how they measure their shipments, the smarter ones take pictures so when they file a case the light of truth that FedEx is cheating customers will come out. I don't know about the particulars of the case posted but I hope they can find a venue to challenge the charges. To blame the victim or to speak authoritatively when you don't know all the facts of the case falls into a "blame the victim" category.

·3 weeks ago@bonanza125 While I try to use USPS GA as often as possible, there are a number of items that I ship that with USPS GA the shipping charge is well over $100 but with FedEx it is only around $30. To me it doesn't make sense the spend an extra $70 (at least) in order to avoid a potential additional charge.

·3 weeks ago@shire123 On anything over 2 lbs I have calculated shipping and have the buyer pay for shipping. USPS GA only. If the buyer doesn't want to pay it that's fine. I would sell locally then.

·3 weeks ago@bonanza125 That is certainly one of the better options for those situations. But for me I really don't have a "local" place to sell as I am in a very rural area.
When I look to buy something on ebay and the calculated shipping shows a price that I know would be a lot lower if a different shipping method were used, I pass on buying that item.
I guess since I have not had any issues with FedEx over the years after shipping hundreds of boxes with them I would rather have the sale and ship FedEx or UPS.
