FEDEX Express has always been a great company, unlikely to continue to be, since they are merging operations with FEDEX Ground/Home.
FEDEX Ground/Home is an uneven service. They rely on independent contractors and in many areas, they are awful. All packages arrive dirty in most of New England. Some drivers scan as delivered days before they deliver. (you could not tell when the delivery occurred from the tracking). They never ring doorbells. They dump and run.
The company FEDEX bought which became FEDEX Ground was RPS which was a horror show.
I feel really sorry for Fred Smith to see the name of his company on what it is today. And it is shrinking rapidly.
FEDEX Ground is cheaper than UPS and I stop buying from companies who use FEDEX Ground. I don't waste effort complaining since I know why they choose FEDEX.
My FedEx Ground is great. Well the 2 "regulars" are great. Deliver to my garage. Take the photo.
Non-regulars are "OK". They take the photo, but it is in my "overflow" receptacle out at the highway. They can't make the extra steps to not leave it by the highway.
I use FedEX exclusively. Our FedEx pricing beats UPS hands down and beats their delivery time.
We quit using UPS years ago due to so many damaged shipments and then they refuse to pay the claims.
I can ship something FedEx ground from Texas to New York and it's usually delivered in 3 business days, where UPS would be 5 business days.
If pricing does go up 5.9%, prices will still be lower than UPS.
I do admit, FedEx has had some serious problems since the pandemic getting workers and having to constantly work short handed, but so has a lot of other companies.
People just don't want to work these days unless it's a job working at home.

I checked FedEx prices via eBay one time thinking they should be cheaper since they would have a much larger volume than our company does, but our prices were way better than through eBay.
This told me that eBay is making money off of this. They probably get a great rate, pass part of it onto the seller and pocket the rest....IMHO
You bet. USPS will raise their rates while their service gets worse. Again, I had no delivery service on Monday & had items going out from my other sites. Pitiful.
Pretty sure usps will be raising rates in early 2024 as well.

Postal Service uses FedEx Air and UPS Rail Freight quite a bit so yeah, rate increases will come. In some respects you might say Amazon and Walmart have put serious cracks in any shipping models outside theirs.
Amazon was largest retail customer of all three of those carriers and moving to FBA and their own freighting put serious dents in other carriers revenues. Now add Walmart to the mix, Walmart has heaps of freighting options as a company itself with stores all over the place. The ship to store at Walmart is literally booming and they just finished an just ENORMOUS processing plant that recently came online.

I think this billing change is great. The delayed billing model caused a lot of confusion for sellers. Soon UPS/FedEx will be billed when you purchase the label, same as USPS.
I feel like UPS is getting hit though since they were one the best ground services based on price for a 5 day service for items 1 lb+.
Now that ground advantage is out competing, I feel like they trying to push ups ground saver to try and be competitive, however their competitive push is an 8 day economy service.
Fedex I have no clue about. They seem more expensive and with the worst service. I don't use them.

It's less than the 2023 increase. about the same as the 2022 average increase and probably not much different than 2021, 202, 2019, etc etc etc.
