Fed Ex Surcharges after buying shipping label on Ebay
Hi I've notice that after a purchase and the label is bought and the item is mailed and delivered that Fed Ex is charging more for labels. I will get an email stating that I have label cost adjustments. Sometimes its couple dollars but the last one was $4.13. So I called Ebay about it and I was told that the cost of the labels changes all the time with Fed EX which does not seem right. The cost of the label should be up front and not adjusted after the item is shipped and then charge the seller. After finding out about this I will avoid Fed Ex and use UPS more. If UPS is two dollars more at the time of purchase then its better than getting a label cost adjustment from FED EX that cost an extra four dollars.

·1 year agoAlthough I realize the discussion is about Fedex, I've often wondered why sellers don't use USPS. It's cheaper, the price you pay on ebay is correct as long as weight and measurements are correct and if there's a loss or damage, you (as the seller) can file claims through USPS.
A quick glance at @ladaacqu-96 's listings tells me that most (if not all) packages would be <70 lbs. and could ship by USPS.
Am I missing something?

·1 year agoFedEx and UPS can be cheaper than USPS @albertabrightalberta - particularly when using their economy services.
Believe it or not, UPS Ground Saver (formerly SurePost) where UPS handles first leg of delivery then passes off to USPS for final leg of delivery, is often cheaper than USPS even on packages 13-15 oz - though usually only by a few pennies, plus it's slower and not insured end-to-end. But over a pound the savings can be more significant, especially when the package gets larger.
Sellers often don't realize FedEx and UPS apply so many cost adjustments, and they don't realize when they use eBay labels they have to go through eBay CS to file a dispute - unlike USPS where all they have to do is go here to file a dispute if an erroneous cost adjustment comes through: https://apvdisputes.usps.com/
Insurance on loss/damage is different. With UPS they still file with UPS, but it's a specific process when the label was purchased with eBay's account (process here). USPS is more straightforward as they just log in to USPS.com and file a claim.

·1 year agoHi @ladaacqu-96 . When the UPS or FedEx cost adjustment is small (under $10) the usual reasons are:
- There was a discrepancy with your weight/dimensions.
- There was an adjustment for a residential surcharge.
- There was a surcharge for an address correction.
eBay won't file disputes on adjustments under $10, but CS will usually credit address correction surcharges. In my opinion, address correction surcharges shouldn't be charged to the seller in the first place since it's eBay's system that's not properly checking addresses when buyers make purchases.
In order to help you determine the reason for the cost adjustment, view the label details and expand the section on the bottom right that says see cost breakdown (highlighted below in green). Black out order #, tracking #, and buyer ID and post a screenshot.

·1 year agoYa, I never use UPS or Fedex on eBay for the reason stated by the OP. Ironically, in my real job, FedEx has 80% of my shipping business with no issues at all, go figure...
Shipping by FedEx with a commercial account and shipping FedEx via ebay are really two different beast. I almost wonder if we didn't have eBay discounts for FedEx and paid retail, I think many of these adjustments would go away. The problem is we cant collect these adjustments, and have to pay for them out of pocket

UPS also has some adjustments (surcharges) that may not be in the "estimated" cost of the label. Buyer beware.
One of those carriers will apply a "surcharge" for "too much tape".
Surcharges are made for packaging material such as vinyl as opposed to a cardboard box.
The list of possibilities, although not endless, is long.
