I purchased something that had a tracking number starting ESUS. On 24th April I received an email from ebay, not USPS, that it was delivered, but nothing in my mailbox, I checked my outdoor camera & USPS didn't even deliver at the time this tracking said it was. Later in the day my camera showed USPS driving right passed my mailbox at their actual time. So I contact the seller and the tracking of this ESUS number shows it was delivered! I put the number into USPS's tracking site & it said it can't be tracked! I raised a "not received" claim and today ebay ruled it was delivered and I get no refund! How is this right? I have video evidence I did not get it, but you can't upload video evidence! I've appealed, but what use is that when I can't show my video evidence! This tracking should not be allowed! What can I do to prove I didn't get what I paid for?

·4 months agoI use ESE all of the time and I have never, ever paid to get one back. And if an ESE is undeliverable they are simply returned to sender at no cost, like all first class letter mail.
The "delivered" scan is received when leaving the regional hub on their way to the local post office. The ESE was probably misplace (or lost) by the OP's post office when it was in their possession. What the OP should have done was contact their local post office and tell them a letter they were expecting is missing and to please see if they have it somewhere. I had a grand total of ONE ESE go missing last year, I advised the buyer to ask their post office if they had it... and they did.
All clerks should be versed in the fact an ESUS tracking number means it is a regular first class letter paid via an online postage "meter" provider (Pitney Bowes) and uses a USPS IMB barcode for tracking; it is not a "fake" tracking number (it is proprietary to eBay's system, but not "fake" and the corresponding IMB is certainly not fake). If one has a lost ESE between the hub and post office, tell the clerk you are looking for a "metered letter", and ask them if they have it, that will cut out the drama and they will know what you mean.

OP5 months agoAs a conclusion to this, people need to be aware about these bogus tracking numbers, ebay need to also be aware that their ESUS tracking numbers they provide are going to have problems for buyers! And when a buyer says that it was not delivered, ebay need to believe them! The item was only of small value, but to me it was the principle, I believed a wrong was done & I had to fight to make it right, why would I bother otherwise? Thank you to everyone who took the time to reply.

·5 months agoThe ESUS number is for eBay Standard Envelopes and is internal to eBay. These are letter mail that is actually "tracked" when the Intelligent Mail Barcode on the label is scanned by a sorting machine. They can not be scanned any other way. The data from that scan is sent to eBay and linked to the ESUS number. This means the "delivered" scan actually happens before the actual delivery in most cases, sometimes a day or 2 before. While very rare this does leave the possibility to lose the envelope between the sorting and your house.
The problem however is not the tracking system but eBay's lack of information of how it works given to both seller and buyer. An experienced and well informed seller might know that they are covered by insurance if they refund in this situation, but this is not made particularly clear by eBay.
It's unfortunate you did not have such a seller, but good that eBay refunded you themselves. Understand though that from a seller's perspective we only see a "delivered" scan and it could be you pulling a fast one.

·4 months agoGreat answer. I'm still waiting on what will be my last single card ESU purchase. These are nothing more than first class letters to USPS. Sellers who use this to save money often get these back and end up spending more to reship them. I spoke with ebay and they think sellers make money shipping single $1 cards using ESU. I think of the cheap single card ESU as a LOSS LEADER. To call these trackable is incorrect. They scan just like a letter to grandma. My advice to sellers of cheap single cards is to drop the ESU and either not list $1 cards or just bundle to have a trackable pkg.

·5 months agoSounds like it got delivered to the wrong person...ESUS is a shipping label and I can't see the seller changing the address for something under 20 bucks.
Tracking will not show up in USPS website...but it does show in eBay...as 'delivered'.
'upload video'...useless in eBay land.
You need to work it out with the seller...and wonder what the seller said?

OP5 months agoI've just called the post office & they said this tracking number isn't a postal tracking number & cannot be tracked, so how did ebay come to the conclusion that it was delivered?

·5 months ago@dotty*dolly Court ruled 'no refund' because you opened a 'I didn't get it" return, but tracking says you did, so you lose.
Now you can do as @ebooksdiva stated when you 'appeal'.

·5 months agoWhat you need to do for proof you are a victim of the fake tracking scam, is to get a letter with a USPS letterhead stating the tracking number on your item was not delivered to your address but delivered to a different address.
Photos and video taken by you or your devices wouldn’t be used as evidence since they can be manipulated and altered.

OP5 months agoI did ring USPS, the lady I talked to was really helpful, but said USPS cannot provide a letter because the tracking number isn't one of theirs.
