eBay Tracking Disaster: Seller Won't Show Shipping Label—What Now?
I'm a long-time eBay buyer, first issue ever. Question for sellers: What do you do when tracking says "delivered," but the buyer never got it?
What happened (Jan 4, 2026):
Bought from a 100% reputable seller. eBay email: "Delivered" + FedEx tracking link.
Linked from eBay's email to Fedex site shows: PDF (Annapolis ZIP only, no full address/name) + delivery proof photo of wrong porch (not mine).
Contacted FedEx (chat + 2 phone calls): Tracking # not linked to my name/address. Delivered to someone else in Annapolis. I have a chat transcript.
My address: Matches the one listed on eBay account exactly.
FedEx advice: Ask the seller for shipping label copy from their FedEx account (Transaction History)—it has the exact address used.
Seller's response: "Delivered" + same useless tracking link. Won't provide a label despite my polite repeated requests. The FedEx page even says: “Enter 9-digit account number for full proof.â€
I'm trying to stay fair—no reputation hit yet. But why refuse the one document proving where it went? eBay tracking flaw? Seller error (wrong label)? Or something shady?
Sellers: How does eBay/FedEx tracking sync? What label/docs do you send disputing buyers or the shipping company? Advice appreciated—want resolution, not drama. Thanks!

·8 months agoHere's the simple explanation @iyoung-us to understand what happened.
Your seller cannot send you a copy of the shipping label ... because it's not their label and likely not even from the eBay FedEx account.
Instead, it is a FedEx label legitimately sent from another seller to their buyer in your city ... and your seller obtained that tracking number e.g. from one of the many track-your-package-here websites.
And you know the rest: That tracking number shows delivered, so it proves that you received it, etc.
That's what happened.

OP8 months agoThere's a twist to this story. The tracking number provided by the seller/eBay shows delivery on January 4, yet the eBay email I received on January 7 confirms the item shipped on January 7—with an estimated delivery window of Fri, Jan 23–Wed, Feb 11. The Fedex generated PDF confirmation file that I can retrieve by clicking on the tracking number displayed this same ridiculous timeline: label initiation on January 7, delivered on January 4 (from Canada to MD, mind it) three days before it was shipped.
When I pointed out this glaring discrepancy, the seller just sent the same "TRACKING DELIVERED" message again, ignoring the date conflict entirely. I wonder why eBay hasn't stepped in after my report—it's a no-brainer situation, yet they're still jerking me around.

·8 months agoReally isnt the sellers respability to send a copy of the label or provide any details that is more than the public facing tracking.
What you need is a statement from the carrier that the address wasnt shipped to the address on the order. Physical copy on carrier letterhead.
Then you can fight the delivery.
If you dont provide this evidence eBay will most likely decide against you.
For people saying your payment instituon would require more than the public facing tracking are wrong.
However, as it stands the seller currently has the most evidence for successful delivery.

·8 months agoIf FedEx confirmed it wasn't sent to your address then you absolutely have a scamming seller.
I'm sure scammers prefer FedEx both because they know the problems of eBay being the account holder and because FedEx so regularly just miss-delivers packages it's harder to tell it's a scam. My semi rural small town FB group constantly has "who's porch is this posts"..

OP8 months agoThe seller has 100% good reviews. Many of them. I don't know what people think, how they can win in it... credit card companies don't like stories like this and reverse charges with no problems.

·8 months agoThe solution to the fake tracking scam is to file a dispute with your credit card issuer.
They require proof of delivery to the cardholder's address, and will require Ebay and the seller to provide it.
Ebay has not figured out how to handle this scam, so you have been wasting your time.

eBay is the FedEx account holder.
eBay Sellers do not have access to the account holder's (eBay's) account information.
Also, eBay notoriously ignores all aspects of this very well-known issue. eBay does not care.
It could be a scamming seller (but not likely with a lot of good feedback).
It could be a glitch in the FedEx system and the person it was delivered to is going to keep it or maybe they returned it, but since neither you, nor the seller, are the account holder, FedEx will just keep the item.
It could be a scam within FedEx & the recipient is part of it.
Not sure where the problem lies, but it's compounded by eBay being the FedEx account holder refusing to have a liaison who actually steps in and assists eBay customers (sellers & buyers) when they need info from FedEx like in this instance.

·8 months agoif the seller used ebay labels for the fedex label, they will not be able to provide the requested information.
reason being the fedex account is "ebays" not the sellers (that account # is private), and there is no "label capture" option either.
once that label is printed after a few hours or once it has been scanned it cannot be "reprinted" unless the seller just happened to have a.pdf of the label on there computer which is very much unlikely.
not sure what other options you may have. You can try reaching out to ebay not sure what the results will be.
Generally speaking if a tracking number is shown as "delivered" is a done deal, if the shipper screwed it up the seller is not held responsible for that.

Seller can reprint the label and send buyer a picture of it in messages.

·8 months agopc and I don't know how to do that on my pc.
From seller hub go to Items paid and shipped.
Find the item and there will be dropdown beside it.
Choose Get another label
Once you click that you have the option of creating another label OR reprinting the initial label
babyers88
·8 months ago@redlinear That is one way you can reprint the original label as I explained in my original post, however upon more investigation that only works on national shipments that have not yet been delivered. Once it has been delivered or if it is EIS outbound from the hub it will not allow a reprint.
in your case if it worked a month later then that package was not yet marked delivered.
redlinear
·8 months agoNot sure about EIS.
My package was marked Delivered.
That's why the buyer wanted me to prove that I didn't change the address.
So, I reprinted the label, took a picture of it, sent him the picture in messages.
But, this was a domestic shipment inside the states

OP8 months agoThank you for your reply. I've been signed up for the free delivery notification services from FedEx, UPS, and USPS for a long time, and I always receive notifications for my deliveries. In this case, however, I didn’t get any — which makes sense, because according to the photo proof displaying someone else's porch, the package apparently never meant to be delivered to my address.
As FedEx confirmed, my name and address are not associated with that tracking number, so the shipment was never meant for my location. It may not be the seller’s direct fault, but rather an error through eBay’s FedEx label system.
All I was hoping for was a simple explanation from the seller so I could understand what happened and avoid leaving negative feedback. Unfortunately, they’ve only been resending the tracking link without clarification, which feels unhelpful. At this point, I may have to open a dispute through my credit card company, as they tend to handle such cases more efficiently than eBay.
Again, thank you for your time and for clarifying how the FedEx label system works now. I have never encountered such situation - for many years of me purchasing stuff on eBay. Too bad, one customer less for them.
