I thought I'd start a discussion about this topic as I have been buying a lot of silver coins lately and find it very frustrating to find that a very high percentage of sellers insist on shipping via Ground Advantage (GA), even for just one coin. I'm not talking about slabbed coins or even really valuable coins...just a junk silver dime for example. It seems there is some lack of awareness of the cheaper Standard Envelope (SE) option OR misconceptions about the supposed lack of reliability of SE and the misconception that their coins are insured up to $100 by GA. First, I have been buying and selling using SE since it was first offered in 2023(?) and after hundreds of sales and purchases I have only experienced 3 undelivered items. Second, silver coins ARE NOT covered by the GA insurance up to $100. If you read the fine print of the terms and conditions you will see that coins are covered at face value (not their silver value). Coins are also specifically excluded from coverage under the ShipCover insurance eBay offers. If you look at the terms they are very clear that coins are excluded yet eBay continually offers that for purchase on coins purchases. Third, yes the tracking via SE is not as specific as GA and only documents departure facility and arrival facility but again, I've never really had a problem with items that don't show delivered. Anyway, just wondering why sellers prefer GA over SE when selling individual or small lots of coins when they could save themselves and/or the buyer money. I for one won't buy from sellers who charge outrageous GA rates to ship one or two coins when they could do so with SE for less than a buck.
