eBay shipping partners - hand off after hand off
So I ordered something from eBay and it shipped from US and will be sent to me in Canada via international shipping services from eBay.
Can someone tell me why each carrier that has had my package is just using another carrier over and over.
My package was sent to IL where the eBay warehouse it for inspection.
Went to Asendia United States first then their carrier Broad Reach took it but broad reach now is sending it to uni uni.
Why can't it just get shipped to me?
It's still in IL lol

·2 years agoThat hybrid shipping is a lot more common. Like a lateral in football, it takes longer and there are more chances to fumble.

·2 years agoI know exactly what you mean. With Ebay Int'l shipping to Canada, my purchases bounce around to 3 different places in Illinois: Carol Stream (USPS # which disappears out of Ebay when you get the Asendia #), Glendale Hts (this is usually where you get the Ascendia #), Chicago. And I end up with 3 tracking numbers. With these multiple locations, to me, it's asking to get lost and I think it is overkill. And one item did. It went from Chicago to Tel Aviv, Israel. As for saving on shipping prices, they are still all over the place. I was hunting for one item, many sellers had it, some ship prices under $20 US, some over $30 US. A couple of them were in the same state, in big cities, not in far away rural areas. So Ebay Int'l shipping does not save the buyer money. I try to look up everything and yep, I have a PowerPoint slide where I keep all the info so I know what is happening because there is too much going on. Now a new name has popped up today for me while tracking an item: BroadReach - first time I have seen this name. It is a logistics company owned by Asendia. Believe it or not, I long for the Global Shipping Program instead of this. It was almost straightforward.

·3 years agoThe main reason ebay is that going thru all these "partners" is that it enables ebay to get good shipping deals. As with pretty much everything else, follow the money. Also, this is appealing to some sellers, because ebay provides certain guarantees to them, e.g. if the package gets lost, after it was delivered to the distribution center, ebay will refund the buyer, not the seller, also ebay does not charge international transaction fees etc.
I ship a lot internationally, don't use ebay labels, but other provider. They also use a similar approach. The package goes to their distribution center, then Asendia takes over, then they use other partners, Swiss Air, La Poste etc for the international leg.
I also sell a lot to Canada. However, I always ship direct to Canada. Your postal service is 100% reliable, never had a single problem. Generally, the delivery to Canada via 1st class takes between 8-10 calendar days. You will get your order, but it is understandable, that you wonder why the system is set up this way.

·3 years agoThe shipping service used is one that has various logistics in place. If you want direct shipping, purchase from a seller that offers direct shipping.
You were OK with the estimated delivery date otherwise you wouldn't have made the purchase, so as long as it arrives in tact and close to that estimate, isn't the number of carriers that handled the package mostly irrelevant?
All that really matters is looking at the final carrier in the process to ensure you can receive the package without issue. Depending on the service and the cost of the item, you may have to deal with customs fees or broker fees which you're likely already aware of.

·3 years agoHow would you know the buyer was OK with the estimated delivery date? Many people, incl. me find something useful for a good price and buy it, and rarely even look at the delivery dates. I bet I am not alone, as they are very fluid, especially, because people have learned that ebay can' t effect them and, especially for international shipment they are really not that accurate.
