Ebay need to stop crediting sellers who print a lable
I have been buying on ebay for years. Ebay needs to set policy that looks at when a shipper actually receives an item and not when a shipping label is created. We have likely all bought things that have a label created and then it takes 4 or 5 days before its in the hands of the USPS or some other shipper. Ebay needs to stop crediting lazy sellers who make buyers wait for days before the item is in transit to them.

·2 years agoSellers have no control over the wording of the email that is sent. I print my labels on eBay, like many (but not all sellers). To be shipped and shipped are 2 different pages and when you print a label, the item goes from to be shipped page to the shipped page. It is nothing more than that. The estimated date of arrival is on your purchase history and that is determined from when you buy the item + handling time + shipping service + distance. Sorry, but it isn't that deep.

·2 years agoI have a shipment like that, printed the label and mailed it the same day. It's been 3 days now with no scan at all. I expect the first scan on it to be the destination scan. Not me, that is the USPS. Most of the time things are fine, now I've had 2 like this in a week. So it goes!
Sometimes ESE shipment never get a scan but still show up.

·2 years agoThat is why you have handling time. The clock begins the minute payment is received & the seller is notified by ebay to ship. That is independent of when the seller chooses to ship it. I use handling time due to my work schedule. However, most items make it same/next business day.
The 4-5 days before in hands is the exception, not the standard.

·2 years agoAll that matters is the estimated delivery date shown on your purchase. That does not change.

·2 years agoBut half the sellers on eBay do not even do eBay shipping labels or tracking.
Tracking is not required to sell on eBay.
If you want something quickly maybe going to a real store might help.

How would that be done? AI hasn't advanced so far that a microchip can be printed along with the label that watches (looks at) the seller or the label itself, to make a note of when the label (on the package) arrives at the US Postal Service office, or FedEx, or UPS, or whatever . . . . . Kind of like a police officer wearing a body cam -- a body cam for the shipping label itself. I can't imagine what eBay's selling fees would be for that kind of control.
AND it's not always a "lazy [eBay] seller." Sometimes, if a seller drops the packaged and labeled item into a mailbox, the USPS employees might not actually scan the package when they open that mailbox.

I guess I have been lucky in that none of my eBay purchases have been excessively delayed, even in extreme weather or during the Covid delays. However, if I ever did have such an experience, that seller would hear about it in my Feedback Left for the Seller.

Aaah, I think you've hit the nail on the head with this statement. "Lazy sellers" certainly do exist. And then there are sellers such as my selling ID. She's retired with literally almost nothing to do on a daily routine basis, and is definitely not a lazy eBay seller. As an eBay buyer, you don't always have accurate info on whether that seller is energetic or lazy.
When one of my eBay listings sells, I package it promptly, print the label, seal the package, hop into the car, and drive to my local US Postal Service office, slightly less than one mile away. There I wait in line for the clerk at the counter to do an acceptance scan of the label on the package and hand me the receipt for that scan. This costs me nothing in US money, and maybe 15 to 30 minutes of time.

·2 years agoThere are policies in place that sellers need to meet concerning shipping, so we aren't getting by with anything. I thought ebay had tweaked the email somewhat so buyers weren't feeling sellers were gaming the system. I'll have to look closely at that email the next time I buy something. I only concern myself with the estimated delivery date.

·2 years agoI was going to say. I got a shipping notification for something I ordered online elsewhere the other day and when I check the tracking, all it says so far is "Label created, not yet in system."

·2 years agoWell, it kind of depends on how you define when an item is actually shipped. Technically, sellers can mark an item as shipped without even creating a shipping label.
eBay will calculate the estimated arrival based on the seller's stated handling time and the shipping service the buyer selects at checkout. If that time elapses and the buyer hasn't received their item, the buyer has the option to open an INR case (Item Not Received).
That's how eBay has set up their system and I would recommend adjusting to that system not trying to get them to change it as that is a futile enterprise.
On the buyer's side, you should pay close attention to seller's handling time, check their feedback, check tracking for shipping updates, and then you have the option to leave feedback concerning shipping delays.
Another thing to look for for buyers is TRS (Top Rated Seller) and TRP (Top Rated Plus). Those are stated on the listing page and is a status where eBay DOES track the timely drop off and physical possession/scanning of packages by the carrier. You can safely consider sellers with that status as "serious" sellers.

·2 years agoYou should check the seller's handling time and estimated delivery time before you buy if time is issue. As long as you receive the item on or before the estimated delivery time then the seller has fulfilled their obligation.

·2 years agoSellers for years have been unhappy with eBay saying it's shipped the instant they click to purchase a shipping label. It's marked shipped before the label is even printed.

·2 years agoeBay is not saying that anymore. Now, they say "tracking number provided" until the package is received and scanned by the post office.

·2 years agoBuying a label does not cause a seller to meet the shipped on time metric.
The first USPS scan can occur days after a shipment is in USPS hands.
Yes there are sellers who only mail things a few day a week, but sellers who mail every day would be penalized by your proposal.
When you order, you can see what period the seller is planning to ship in. Many ship much faster than their commitment, I do.
