eBay International Shipping question
I had a recent buyer message me this morning and told me they were being charged an additional $22 to get their item, which was shipped via the eBay International program to Canada. As far as I know, shipping weight was accurate, since it ships in the US first to the eBay depot and there have been no shipping label updates, so I am wondering what the $22 might be for. I asked the buyer to see if I could get more clarity on the charge, as online tracking only shows they attempted delivery yesterday, but nothing about a fee due.
Since using first Global Priority and then International Shipping, I have never had a buyer come back and say fees are owed upon receipt. Any thoughts (without knowing what the fee is for) what could have caused this?

·2 years agoThe global shipping program always included taxes and duty. The new program EIS has it on some listings but in most cases the buyer has to pay for those when the item is picked up.

·2 years agoYour buyer should be the one who should know what was the charge for.
According to the USMCA free agreement, items valued at <C$40 are exempt from taxes and duties. Over that threshold (de minimis) the items are taxed and in certain situations duties may or may not be imposed for items valued <C$150. The actual taxes depend on the province the item was shipped to and also on the commodity shipped.
I read somewhere that ebay uses Asendia for certain countries. Asendia charges a $9.95 brokerage fee on orders over C$40. SO this $22 could be a combination of various charges.
I don't use ebay but my understanding is, as the other poster suggested, it is not your problem. However, it would certainly help to figure out what is going on as you probably won't get this buyer to buy from you again, if they don't get satisfactory answers.

·2 years agoThose charges might be GST/HST, or duty, or customs clearance fee, or any combination of those.
Buyers have the option to prepay those fees but they have to option to pay them on delivery as well.
Not your problem. You can tell them to contact Ebay since all post International Hub issues are handled by Ebay.
Please avoid the temptation to tell them to pound sand.

·2 years agoActually, that choice isn’t available on most listings; it’s either one or the other. The ability for buyers to choose how they’d like taxes and duties handled is an option that seems to be slowly getting rolled out as of a month or so ago.

They seem to have a choice on all of my EIS sales, and are opting to pay the VAT too often. I prefer not to pay the FVF on VAT

·2 years agoI don’t have that choice offered to me for your $100 button lot. The buyers you’re getting may be from countries where payment of VAT is required at Checkout in a manner similar to what it is for sales taxes on a sale to a US buyer.

·2 years agoJust hopped onto my laptop, @tobaccocardyahoo, so that I can change the destination country for the buttons on the listing page (something I can't do on my phone) and I checked out three different countries, and none of them offer a choice between prepaying duties and paying them upon receipt. There's just the note "Authorities may apply import charges upon delivery."

I can tell you that this week, I have had buyers using EIS that have paid VAT on shipments to the UK and Denmark on collectibles.

·2 years agoAnd what I'm suggesting to you, @tobaccocardyahoo, is that those buyers possibly paid the VAT through Checkout in the same way that most of your stateside buyers would pay state/regional sales tax.
In other words, if you weren't having eIS handle your international shipping and you were shipping directly to these buyers, they'd still be charged VAT at Checkout by eBay.
