Ebay charging a USPS Short Paid Fee, but shouldn't be.
Hello:
It makes no sense why Ebay is trying to charge me a USPS Short Paid Label Fee of $17.26. The package in question was for a 7 oz. Media Mail Package for a DVD that only costs $4.63 for the first 16 oz., which is what I paid. The buyer received the package, he was happy, and we both left positive feedback. If the label was short and money, then I know that the USPS would have returned it to me and not have delivered it to the buyer. I also contacted the USPS and they informed me that they did not contact Ebay for this package because everything was fine with it. I already know is only trying to steal money from sellers in whatever illegal way they see fit, even though they won't get it. I spoke to an agent over the phone and asked him to cancel the charge. What he did instead was charged the amount to my checking account without my consent or permission. It doesn't cost $17.26 or $21.89 to ship a DVD. I have been in this business for over 15 years so I definitely know that it doesn't. My bank has also told me that if it does show on the account, I should contact them again so they can help me with the dispute process, which is exactly what I will do. I won't let Ebay steal from me or receive any ill gotten gains because they they need to learn the difference between right and wrong, and soon they will.

·1 year agoYou should have received an email from ebay saying USPS was charging you.
If you feel it's an error you can appeal it (to USPS NOT ebay) using the link wasting time gave you.
To check go to https://www.ebay.com/ship/lmng on your account to see if there are any notifications of label adjustments.

The charge came form USPS, and you need to appeal with USPS. They do take actual photos of the item in transit and when you appeal they will review those photos. If the cost adjustment was applied in error, perhaps your package was stuck to another which happens sometimes because automated systems are not perfect, USPS will credit the amount back to your account.

·1 year agoYou are refusing to listen to advice being given to your. A few years ago the USPS started a new program to prevent abuse of boxes and postage. Every package as it goes through the system is measured and weighed. You cannot use a Priority Flat Mail box as a regular box and put a custom box price on it. You cannot use the wrong box to ship an item. If you do, the USPS now directly charges you.
In your case it is clear that the USPS rejected your claim of media mail and then determined the price for shipping it was $17.26. Don't expect the USPS to pick the smallest custom box and work out the correct postage for you. It is not eBay charging you. It is the USPS.
Be careful about how you go about this. I don't know much about this kind of appeal process with eBay Shipping and the USPS, but don't put yourself in a position where you will no longer be allowed to buy labels via eBay Shipping or even the USPS. The is an appeal process. Use it.

A similar situation happened to me several years ago: I received an email through my eBay account that one of my USPS Media mailings had been charged an additional USPS Priority fee, and that the weight of over 4 pounds was additionally underpaid (the weight on my package was less than 8 ounces).
Although the email was sent through my eBay account, the email was clearly sent from USPS, with a USPS case number, plus a USPS phone number (and USPS email number) for appeal purposes.
Because I had used an eBay shipping label, which includes the Pitney-Bowes code assigned to eBay, USPS rightfully had contacted eBay initially, and eBay had then re-messaged that email to me -- the original seller.
I phoned the USPS phone number supplied on the email which I had received through eBay, and talked to an actual HUMAN BEING! I notified her of the email which I had received, and she informed me that this situation happens frequently, when a smaller package becomes attached to a larger package during the high-speed, automatic photo scan, which occurs with every package sent through the shipping process.
She helped me open up an appeal process over the phone, and told me that I should be receiving a refund within a few days, if the investigation indicated that my package was, indeed, photographed attached to a bigger and heavier package.
A couple days later, I received a refund.
So, easy solution: Use the phone number attached to the email which you had initially received, and appeal your case through USPS.

OP1 year agoYes, they scan the barcode, but that's not taking a picture. If they do take pictures, then the ink stamps of Media Mail and Do Not Crush should have been in the photo also. If they actually had a problem with the package, they they wouldn't accept it and scan it as accepted when I drop it off at the Post Office. The package was fine, just as all of my packages are.

·1 year agoThe Post Office has taken pictures of packages throughout the travels of a package for a long time now. They don't just take a pic because there is a problem with the packaging. They take pics on ALL packages at various times during their travels.

·1 year agoAnd @musicmoviesandtv should be glad they didn't deliver it with postage due because that would have been a legitimate reason for the buyer to refuse delivery and file INR.

·1 year agoI don't think that would have happened. Original poster was charged a cost adjustment for a Large Flat Rate Box. Very likely their media mail envelope with a DVD was on top of or next to a LFRB as it passed the scanner, resulting in an erroneous charge.
If they file an appeal using the link I posted earlier, USPS will review the photos, see the error, and refund the adjustment amount.

I was having some issus with a box I shipped, and I took the tracking number down to the post office, and a clerk pulled and showed me the picture of my package, and everythin work out fine. I have had several erroneous APV charges, and was always from my package piggy backing on another.

OP1 year agoThe package clearly said Media Mail on it and they knew it. It isn't difficult for them to verify that. I never had any problems with all the other packages I've shipped out in the same way.

·1 year agoBecause it is sent out using the Class Media Mail doesn't mean it qualifies for media mail. There are lots of sellers on the internet, not just on this site, that abuse that class of mail. And certainly DVDs qualify for this class of mail.
I have had USPS kick my media mail package up to Priority Mail a time or two because they thought my books didn't qualify for media mail. I of course got my money back.
On the notification of the additional money owed are some identifying number. And there should be something that USPS can work with and identify the charge. I would gather that information and go to www.usps.com and contact them to see what is what on this.
I completely understand your frustration. I would feel the same way if it were me. But Ebay does not do the charges, it is USPS. Heck is their logo on the notification you got for the money due?

OP1 year agoThe postal service doesn't take photos of packages when they are delivered. The item was in a small brown bubble envelope as they always are with red ink stamps that clearly say Media Mail and Do Not Crush. Perfectly fine and not in any Priority packaging. The postal service did nothing wrong. I don't need to go to a Post Office because I already have my bank to help me. The post office can't do anything because the charge is through ebay and not the USPS. Ebay initiated the charge earlier over the phone with me, not the USPS.
The Postal service takes images as a scan while in transit.
It's not eBay charging you, it's USPS charging you. USPS will not contact eBay.
When packages are scanned or photos taken a priority package may have been under your media mail package.
You need to gather up your proof and bring it to the Post Master at your post office to see if you can be reimbursed.
ETA: if USPS opened your mailer (they can and will open packages at their discretion) found you were using a priority shipping box to ship they will charge you accordingly.
