I shipped an item using a prepaid eBay label with UPS. I weighed and measured it and UPS packaged it. Now I’m being charged an extra $118.

·1 year agoWhen you measured it, did you allow for the packing? It would have added a bit to the weight too. I suspect it crossed the line into over size when they packed it.

·1 year agoAre you confirming then, that the very first response I posted up above is correct? You purchased a label before UPS packed it based on dresser's weight/dim instead of waiting for UPS to pack it and provide final packed weight/dimensions for you to purchase the label?
If that's indeed what happened then there's nothing to appeal here. The error was in not buying a label with accurate weight/dimensions, so UPS applied a cost adjustment for the difference.

·1 year agoUPS Stores charge for packing the item. You can drop a ready to ship package off there but when you want them to package it then they charge retail postage rates and a fee to pack it. The cost of their bubble wrap and box is very expensive. Plus them packing it doesn't relieve you of responsibility for damage. I am sorry you learned not to let them package your item.

·1 year agoA seller can pay for UPS Store to pack it but not pay them for the label @fab_finds4u. Sellers can use their own prepaid shipping label even if UPS Store packs it.
Retail rate should not be a factor at all here.

OP1 year agoI paid UPS to pack it because I didn’t have a big enough box. And if I don’t get the $118 back, I’ll have given the item away with a lot more hassle than leaving it on the curb.

You will NOT get any $$ back
Shipping a dresser, even in pieces, sounds like a $118 shipping cost.
Leave it as lesson learned.

·1 year agoYou are not alone. Multiple sellers are complaining about this daily that Fed Ex and UPS are charging more after purchasing a prepaid label from Ebay. I think Ebay really needs to look at investigate this issue cause something is definitely wrong. My advice would be if you are deciding to seller more stuff on any platform use USPS. I have had no issue in regards to being charged more than what the original Ebay rate was.

There are many surcharges with UPS and FedEx that are not factored in until the carrier physically reviews the package.
In order to help you determine if your charge was legit or in error (and how to appeal), view the label details and expand the section on the bottom right that says see cost breakdown (highlighted below in green). Black out order #, tracking #, and buyer ID and post a screenshot.
Please also provide a physical description of the package (box, bag, tube, handle, etc).
