Does anyone best how to ship a high value item as USPS doesn't insure items over $5k?
I'm attempting to ship an item, but cannot find insurance over $5K through USPS and not sure if ShipCoverage is reliable if the item is lost or stolen. Thanks for your help!

·6 months agoI don't mind shipping to freight forwarders. If the buyer is unhappy for any reason, they now have a more expensive return process that they will have to foot the bill for. As long as you get your signature confirmation, you're all set.
I use ShipCover and have had them pay out for a laptop broken in transit. As long as you follow their claims procedure you'll be fine too if anything goes awry.

·6 months agoI believe that Registered Mail has a higher limit but you need to check on USPS.com
You cannot buy registered mail postage through the Ebay site.

·7 months agoUSPS has a maximum Liability of $5000. That will not change as too many bad actors have tried to scam the USPS over time. You would have to purchase through a third party extended insurance.

·7 months agoShipCover is generally a great option @betsyt715 . You can insure up to $15k domestic or $10k international. BUT there is fine print, just like any shipping service's liability coverage (including USPS).
I strongly suggest you read the ShipCover terms and if they look good then you can consider it - otherwise you can pay for postage at the post office, buy Registered Mail service, and you can insure for up to $50k through USPS.

·6 months agoFreight forwarder addresses and drop shipping addresses are two entirely different things.
YOU are the shipper/seller. YOU know that you're not drop shipping.
I can see that the value of this sale might make you nervous, but you probably need to do a bit more reading about freight forwarders.

OP6 months agoSorry, I may be using the incorrect term. I am not used to shipping internationally with freight forwarders, but via eBay International and they handled it for me. Your help is very appreciated. I'll look into it further.

·7 months agoFirst...check ID of buyer in feedbacks...is this a buyer of the 'USA'.
Ouch...you live in Florida which has a lot of 'freight forward' buyers using a USA address locker but goes to a foreign country.
Check the feedbacks of this buyer also...
Then make a decision on the shipping.
What a great sell...my wife would be jealous!

OP6 months agoBuyer has 100% feedback and her profile says she lives in Germany, but ship to address is Delaware. Thanks for your help, this all makes me a Nervous Nelly....😂

·6 months agoIf your buyer's shipping address is in Delaware, is it not possible that she/he is using a freight forwarder located in that state?

·6 months agoSince it will be going 'freight forward' and I have been lucky so far with it...but never had anything that expensive before going freight forward.
I usually call out the buyer to let them know I know it is going to Germany via Delaware...
Expect item to take another 2 weeks to be delivered to buyer since it goes to the locker of the freight forward hub and it will eventually be shipped out.
I also take a photo of package with postage on it and send that in an email also to the buyer to let them know date, where it's going(Germany) and will take longer to get to them.
If item does not get a scan as 'delivered' in Delaware...it is considered not delivered.
