Denied My USPS Postal Claim for Lost Package
Summary: mnmkoter shared an issue with a USPS claim for a lost package, which was denied due to not showing proof of the item's value. christworks advised submitting the order details as a PDF instead of a screenshot, as PDFs are less easily altered. mnmkoter is concerned about the international purchase details but plans to involve their local post office for additional support. They decided to mail the appeal instead of using the online system.
Today I had a very interesting interaction with the USPS. I was denied my postal Claim for a Lost Package. They said I did not show proof of Value of the item. I sent them the Order details of the item that shows all the information they requested. Is there something else I should be sending them to get my claim covered? I have 30 days to appeal and I want to make sure I get it right so I will my claim. On a side not now that they USPS lost the item I will get an Item not received ding. Doesn't seam vary fair to me but I guess that is how it goes.

OP3 weeks agoThank you for the info I was able to do this as you suggested below. My only concern now when I appeal is that it was an international purchase and the ship to address shows EIS and not the actual purchaser. I guess I will have to roll the dice and see what happens. On a side not I am taking all this information to my local post office and see if I can talk to the supervisor. They area actually friendly at my local post office and I know a few of them so they will be helpful. Maybe they can give me some insight to make sure I submit my claim properly. finally I will be mailing the PO Box for the appeal and not submitting my appeal claim online. thank you again for your help.

·3 weeks ago · Edited@mnmkoter Someone else recently posted a message that their claim was denied because they did not show proof of value of the item.
If you click on the order number, you should have screen shoted the entire page that shows what the buyer pays, along with the buyer information and order number. If you submitted a screen shot of this information and were denied, then using a screen shot might be the issue.
When you file an appeal, submit the same information as a PDF instead. You can save as PDF by using the print function and changing the output to PDF. The reason is because screen shot images can be easily altered using AI. It is possible they are denying claims where screen shots are submitted with proof of value information.
As an example, it took me only a couple of minutes to have AI alter this order page screen shot to reflect a much, much higher price than what my buyer paid. If I did not have ChatGPT add the AI watermark at the bottom, this could easily pass as a legit screen shot to someone who didn't know what a reasonable price for a 1980s-era Sharp Microwave manual cost. The math is even correct, which a year ago probably would not have been.
It is not impossible for a PDF to be altered by AI in the same manner as my screen shot. They may have a better way to detect altered PDFs though.
