Defective eBay boxes
I've always been happy with the eBay boxes purchased with my store credit, but the latest batch were cut poorly and have gaping holes in all 4 bottom corners.
Wondering if anyone else has had issues with this size box: 6" x 4.75" x 4.75"
I'm shipping them back today, but it's a bummer because they're very sturdy and a nice size.

·1 year agoIt's not just their boxes. Everything is going down in quality significantly. Poly bags and bubble mailers are now useless. They come apart at the seems and whatever new material they went with tape doesn't stick to them either and labels fall of during shipping. It's crazy because every time you order items the quality goes down. You can literally see the differences between your previous items and the new items. They keep changing how things are made using the cheapest possible materials & methods, but their prices keep increasing. Our quarterly credits are becoming kind of useless because half the stuff they ship out now can't even be used.

·1 year agoI have a bunch of the smallest boxes with that problem - I've had them for years so this may be a recurring problem. I tore the side off the box and resealed it with that gap closed. It was a little bit of hassle and I shouldn't have had to do that, but I needed the boxes right away for shipping, like that evening.
But it seems to be something that pops up from time to time - like the large poly envelopes with the weak seams.

·1 year agoThe OP's photo shows a potentially misaligned seam that can be fixed in the way you describe.
Most of those boxes I have are not misaligned seams, but gap cut too large for the flaps - extending into the box sides.
You can tell the difference because when it's cut wrong that hole appears on all corners, not just the edge with the seam.
The boxes used to be 6x4x4. I always wondered if this problem on 6x4.75x4.75 is caused because the machine is programmed to cut based on the 4" instead of the new 4.75". I have nothing to base that on except my mind wondering why the problem is so consistent.

I do often end up with misaligned boxes and know how to make those work, but these boxes had gaping holes in all four corners -- not just a misalignment. I included five photos with my return, but didn't include all the photos here. You're right -- seems like they should remove these from the offerings if there are complaints.

·1 year agoI strongly disagree. I think they should keep offering them but fix the problem.

·1 year agoSurprised to hear of so many problems with the boxes. Definite quality control issues.

·1 year agoI did contact them via the listing ID (message) and the last time they just sent me another lot of them. I was also able to keep the other ones without shipping back. YMMV

I was surprised they even wanted to pay for the return label, given the many photos I sent.
I could have used them as scrap cardboard for packing, but maybe they can recycle them into new boxes.

·1 year agoor they will recycle by selling them to another buyer 🤣

·1 year agoThey most likely have auto return set up once you open a return up. IMHO.
My suggestion to anyone that has this issue to message the ebay.shipping.supplies ID from the listing to explain the issue. They may decide at that point to let you keep them and will issue another bundle. In my case it was an obvious seam issue in manufacturing them and they most likely knew about the problem. YMMV

·1 year agoThat seems to be the norm at times with this size box along with the 8x8x8 from my experience.
Still solid boxes and I just add some more packing tape to make the package secure and cover any gaps for safe delivery.
I have to add after looking closer to your photo, the package seems to be a delivery to you. I can see all the packing tape as if it was a shipment to you.

I noticed the problem when I started packing up a sale for shipment.
I have to apply tape to the bottom of the box before placing the item in the box.

·1 year agoI had a batch that were cut bad and did not want to square up well when taping them up. I was able to use them though.
Those holes you have make them unusable it looks like.
Over all, 4 purchases a year of boxes, quality has been good.

Yes it does. 😂
I tried multiple boxes before initiating the return.
