computing tariffs for shipments from UK
I recently purchased a hobby item - a model locomotive - from a seller from UK and was quite surprised to see that the import / tariff costs were about 1/3rd of the cost of the item. My rough estimate was that it would be around 10% total. Can someone please breakdown the math for me and show me how it got to be ~31% of the sale price. thanks !

The layout shown in your screenshot is very confusing, so it's not surprising that you're confused.
The first 4 line items listed, (item + delivery + import charges + tax), add up to the total at the bottom. Not including the 5th item (import fees), which is not included in the total.
195 + 39.48 + 31.95 + 15.11 = 281.54 which is the total amount you were charged in GBP.
So the "import fees" of GBP 29.25 were not a separate cost; that is just a break out of the amount you paid for the "import fees", specifically. Presumably, this is the duty/tariff. The rest of the "Import charges" = (31.95 - 29.25 = 2.70) was a service fee, or a brokerage fee.
31.95 ÷ ( 195 + 39.48 ) = 0.13625 = 13.625% for the Import charges percentage
Or if you look at the just the import fees (duty/tariff) instead:
29.95 ÷ ( 195 + 39.48 ) = 0.1247 = 12.47%
This was shipped by GSP, Global Shipping Programme, right?
