Can't Use eBay Standard Envelope in Eligible Category
I listed an item in Collectibles & Art, Stamps, Topical Stamps, Transportation, Trains & Railroads
5 postage stamps, 1 ounce, size 10 x 4 x 0.2 for $1.50 plus 99 cents shipping.
eBay is not allowing the eBay standard envelope for 74 cents.
They offer USPS Ground Advantage for $5.00 to this customer.
I talked to eBay customer support, and they said it should be allowed. They are elevating it to technical support and to expect a 48-72 hour wait to hear back.
I must ship the item before that. So I put a forever stamp on it and mailed it.
I have shipped many stamp category orders using the standard envelope in the past with no problem. Why this particular category?
I am reporting this here just to let you know that eBay acknowledges there is some problem on their end.

·4 months agoTry flipping your dimensions around from 10 x 4 to 4 x 10. Those two sizes are not the same. 10" first would be an envelope standing 10" tall exceeding the 6.5" height. Not sure if this does work, but try it

·4 months agoI reported the same problem about 2 weeks ago, still waiting for a response! The Ebay customer support person verified that it's a problem that needs to be corrected, and that he was forwarding a "ticket" to their technical team, but NOTHING has been done to correct the problem. This really makes me MAD because I feel as though I HAVE BEEN LIED TO by Ebay and they DON'T CARE about my issue. I've also contacted Ebay 4 TIMES regarding this issue but obviously their CUSTOMER SERVICE agents are incapable of fixing the problem. Our only options at this point are to either pay for USPS Ground Advantage with TRACKING for something that weighs less than 1 ounce... or put it in an envelope and put a postage stamp on it with NO WAY to track... and receive a STRIKE from Ebay for NOT UPLOADING TRACKING. I've been selling on Ebay for over 25 years with over $300,000 in sales... and this is how Ebay treats their best sellers!

·4 months agoSome categories on ebay especially collectibles do not allow ebay std envelope as an option to be used; as of Easter 2026 Ebay implemented software somehow to check the number of postage stamps in a lot. If more than 10 now you get shipping changed to USPS Ground Advantage and "The system is working as it should " per Leadership Team members at Ebay. Had an EBay Std Envelope Labeled envelope returned by USPS as non standard form, postage due. (was less than 1 oz) and took over a month to get back. Looking for a Leadership person to get that arbitrary limit changed on ebay. 24 trade cards can also be sent using ebay std envelope which are 4-6 time the size of a postage stamp and often 4-6 times it's value. Ebay Bias here.

Change the item size down to something like 6x4.

As I suspected eBay never got back to me, and they never will. I sent the stamps with a forever stamp, marked it as shipped, and the buyer received them.

·4 months agoUnfortunately you will be penalized by Ebay for not sending the item with "verifyable and uploaded tracking". Once again, Ebay screws the seller! 😞

·6 months agoJust put both of them in one envelope, put a forever stamp on it and mail it. Then in order details, choose the option for "mark as shipped". It won't have tracking, but your buyer is unlikely to claim not received, especially since you have contacted them about the situation.

·4 months agoI also tack an iphone picture of every envelope I send to msg to buyer and for foreign I use THE USPS certificate of mailing for lots above $10 international. Added cost to buyer $2.40 currently.

@stmarks*closet DO NOT CANCEL THE SALE! That is the worse decision you could make! I would (and have) taken a loss to avoid a cancellation. You are talking about a few dollars. Why would you risk your account over a few bucks?
eBay combined the shipping because you offer it. Your stamp listings say you charge $1.00 for each additional item.
You don't even have to take a loss. If you aren't able to buy an eBay standard envelope, put a stamp on it instead just as OP did. What am I missing?

·6 months agomy instructions say, please contact me In advance about combined shipping. I do not offer additional items for a dollar shipping. Nowhere does it say that.
this is frustrating because a large part of my business is these small items, and if I can't establish consistent profitability, then I have to figure out something else to sell. Which was a particularly a drag since I have 1500 listings posted at considerable effort.
I wrote to the customer and explained the situation. I said they could cancel one item, I'll ship the other and they can re-order them if they want to. I'll see what they do.

·4 months agoIf you "put a stamp on it" without uploading VERIFIABLE TRACKING... you will be penalized by Ebay, even though this is THEIR FAULT, and your "Prefered Seller" status will be effected (no discounts).

·6 months agoJust having a similar problem. sold two lots of stamps, total of 10 stamps (my description says "contact me in advance for combined shipping" but they didn't) for a total of about $5.50. I offer ebay standard envelope for all similar sales, I've been doing it for about a year with a few problems but not many. ebay combined these shipments into one packing slip and only offers shipping for $5.62. I could put both orders in one standard envelope total weight .6oz, but it won't let me. I'm going to have to cancel or sell for a loss. I can't reach support, automated help is useless. I know it's a small items but I do many of these every week, I wish it would just work.

·4 months agoThey changed the software ofter Easter 2026 to check for more than 10 postage stamps in a lot. Tried no listing no of stamps, tried words for QTY still no success. Even a shipment of 4 stamps for a Soviet Union post Country less than 10 stamps were denied Ebay Std Envelope. Have to send as std USPS letter w/o tracking or insurance. But if you do not have tracking you are docked as a top seller which is unfair. As well you open up to scammers getting stuff for free saying they did not receive the lot. I am black balling id's that do that and well as foreign countries.
