Canadian buyer says he will get an exorbitant courier fee if I use eBay international shipping to send him a small package. Is this true? He wants me to just send USPS. Does the courier fee how when he clicks my listing to calculate shipping?

·2 years agoAs a Canadian yes this is true. We basically have to pay two shipping costs (One to the sorting center and another to send to us) the cost is usually over 30$ which is very expensive for just a shipping cost. Only in very rare cases does one of my packages I send across canada or USA ever reach 30$. It's annoying lol. My solution was to not order much from ebay anymore. Also it certainly helps my sales so I'm not complaining; everyone in Canada will order from me instead to avoid paying absurd shipping or import fees haha.

·2 years agoI used to get a lot of complaints from Canadians from items which were listed with Ebay Global.
I get fewer messages complaining about the cost and more orders with EIS.
Since Canada is a tiny market, I am not going to become an expert on export to Canada, I am not going to do customs paperwork, and I am not going to worry about lost or damaged shipments to Canada.
Fortunately, there are Canadian buyers who see the value in what I sell and will pay that and the cost of EIS shipment.
I am not singling out Canada for anything other than having whined more than any other country about my shipping charges.

·2 years agoIf you do decide to ship USPS, use First Class International Package Canada, which is fully tracked.
But check the cost first, and the buyer will be paying import fees +service charge on arrival. Let them know that.
And give the customer the cost to see if they really do want to make the adjustment.
EIS is usually cheaper.

I Thank You for your two posts in this thread, #s 3 and 4 !!
For about 12 years, my selling ID's listings have stated that she will ship to all 50 United States, APO/FPO addresses, US territories, and Canada. However, she has never shipped any sale to Canada. (Not saying that Canadians never bought, but they might have had collection locations in northern American cities they can drive to easily.) Kinda of hate to admit this, but I had no idea of the costs that could be involved to a nation of potential buyers !
I think now I will go into my Preferences and the few active listings I have and update them to add Canada as one of my eIS nations. Who knows? I might see some sales !

·2 years agoWe have a $150 duty-free allowance and a $40 tax -free allowance on imports from the USA.
Couriers charge to collect this and fees can start at $25.
Canada Post also charges but the fee is only $9.95.
That's Canadian dollars so $10 Cdn is $7.50 USD.
But if you set up eIS to charge the import fees at point of purchase, there would be no service fee from any carrier.
