Canadian buyer not seeing shipping option, but I am enrolled in International Shipping
Summary: In the discussion, jimshow raised an issue regarding a Canadian buyer who is unable to see the shipping option, despite being enrolled in international shipping. eoma689485 and marnotom! engaged in the conversation, but no specific details or solutions were provided in the dialogue. The discussion seems to have reiterated the problem but did not arrive at a conclusion or solution.
I am a US seller enrolled in International Shipping and have sold to Canada before. I sent out offers on an item and a Canadian buyer wants to buy my item, but the page is telling her that shipping to Canada is not an option.
Do I have some option toggled off or something? There are three other questions like this one in the forums but all three have zero replies. Any advice?

·4 months agoI’m in Canada and what I see is that you’re set-up to ship only to the United States and I’m supposed to ask you for a shipping quote.
I basically agree with @eoma689485‘s assessment that it looks as though eBay’s AI evaluated the item as being problematic to ship with eIS and stripped eIS from the listing.
I would not relist this in another category as there’s a good chance the item will fail inspection at the hub and dead-end there.

OP4 months agoI appreciate the insight. I will write to the buyer and let them know that it's most likely because of the item. Thank you.

·4 months agoSounds like eBay may have automatically blocked EIS to Canada - the system may have flagged the category as "restricted military gear" (even though you are selling a vintage WW2 jacket) or if the buyer's Canadian postal code is flagged as a remote location that EIS contract carriers do not service.
You can try cancelling that listing, and listing it in another category (not military), then send the potential buyer the item number.

OP4 months agoEbay's AI has really been overstepping lately. I had another listing (a firehouse t-shirt) flagged last week for violating the "police and fire" uniform rule when it was clearly not a uniform and no different than the hundreds of others currently listed on ebay. It's frustrating that they will just flag and remove a listing with no easy way to appeal.
Thank you for the reply.

·4 months agoWell, think about how computers operate. AI doesn’t “see” things the way a human being would. eBay’s AI can only go by stuff like categories and keywords. I doubt it’s sophisticated enough to analyze pictures at this point.

OP4 months agoI understand that AI is not perfect, but I'm more frustrated that when you try to appeal its decision, you appeal to the AI! Then it just tells you it was correct and that the decision stands. There's no human involved and no true "appeal" process. And then you do a search and find HUNDREDS of other similar listings that the AI has not removed.

·4 months agoYour item wasn't removed, either, though. It was just restricted to domestic shipping. Are any of these listings using eBay International Shipping?

OP4 months agoThe military jacket was not removed. It just seems to be restricted to US buyers only. I’m not complaining about that. This post was just inquiring as to “why?” And you suggested it was the AI. I understand that.
My additional comment was about an item that WAS removed by AI for violating a police and fire uniform policy. However, I don’t believe it did violate that policy. When you appeal it, the AI rejects the appeal even though there are hundreds of similar listings that were not removed. It just seems very haphazard.

·4 months agoWas Eaby a betting man, it would not bet on allowing your jacket to ship to Canada. If the product was seized by Canadian customs, Ebay would be out the cost of shipping and the cost of the product, including its fees. Better to prevent the sale and avoid the risks of losing the bet.
I would train the AI to be risk averse. You would probably find a domestic buyer for your jacket eventually, and Ebay would make its fees.
