Buying used video games from Canada to USA
Hello Community:
I want to buy some "lots" of video games from Canada. The prices are great. But I am hearing many horror stories regarding tariffs and/or brokerage fees.
But I am hoping someone here has actual experience, not just internet rumors. The scenario: I purchase $200 USD, including shipping, in used video games to be shipped via Canada Post.
What kind of charges might I typically see? Any advice is helpful.
Thank you.

·8 months agoIf it is shipped with Canada Post, they only offer Delivered Duty Paid (DDP) shipping. That means that the seller has to complete a full customs declaration online AND pay all the duty including all tariff up front before they purchase the shipping label. That is what US Customs and Executive Order 14324 require now.
As long as the seller uses DDP shipping (from any carrier) there would be no additional duty/tariff at all. Most knowledgeable sellers in Canada are only using DDP, and including the duty in the cost of the item or cost of shipping, no matter what carrier they use.
You can confirm with the seller what carrier they will use, but as long as it is DDP, there would not be any duty or tariff for you to pay.
Some commercial carriers still offer Delivered Duty Unpaid (DDU) which means they pay the duty to USCBP up front "as a courtesy to the seller". But too many US buyers have been refusing to pay the duty when or before the package is delivered. In which case, the carrier collects it from the seller, plus brokerage fees, and they have to pay extra if they want the item returned to them. The sellers take a huge loss when this happens.

·8 months agoI am a person who sells video games. Yes you will most likely receive a bill for a tariff charges. This is something you really have to wait until you are charged because the percentages tend to change. Right now it's at 25% but there are threats that it can increase to 100%. When purchasing video games myself I tend to avoid International all together right now and just stick within the US.
