Buyers who want unavailable shipping details.

Question

I had a buyer ask for an update on their order, as it's been delayed a bit with USPS. So I checked the tracking and told them what I saw. Their response? "I already knew that. Since I'm not the seller, I can't see any more info."

What the french toast? How many buyers seriously think that sellers have secret access to USPS internal tracking that isn't publicly available? Has anyone else experienced something like this, and if so, what do you tell the buyer? I just told them to be patient and that they're free to file INR if it doesn't arrive on time.

This is mainly a rant. Thanks for listening.

I'd probably reply and tell them there are some delays and backlog across the country from recent storms, but their package should move soon. And I'd tell them I will keep an eye on it and will file a missing mail inquiry when USPS timeline allows if there isn't movement before then.

Basically just reassure them. They want their hand held.

If you slow roll your responses to these people the issues often work themselves out in the meantime. Don't even answer for 48 hours next time. Then start with "Sorry for the delayed response, we were not open yesterday, it looks like....."

I appreciate the second opinions! Thank you. As it turns out, the item in question received a scan in the buyer's state 2 hours ago, so this is all now very moot.

I'd also tell them that sellers aren't able to see any further details than what's shown in the tracking link.
