Buyer says item was delivered to the wrong zip code
A buyer is stating that an item was delivered to the wrong zip code. I googled the address with both the zip code listed on the account and the zip code USPS shows it was delivered to and it shows the same location. I opened a missing item search with USPS, not sure when they will conclude, but I dont know what else to do from here. Do I tell the buyer to open an item not received request or ask Ebay to step in?

·10 months agoYes (if the tracking on ebay shows delivery or attempted delivery). Once the case is open respond to it by uploading the tracking. Do not ignore it.
...and then no...do not ask ebay to step in...NEVER EVER ask ebay to step in if you can help it.
Just let the process work itself out.

·10 months agoA lot of people here seem to be under the misconception that simply being marked delivered would make it safe.
Now for this specific instance, the OP mentions that the zip code matches on the carrier site to what is on the order details page. So they should be safe if an INR is open.
But for anyone who might be reading this, in order to be protected by eBay you need evidence of successful delivery, which means the zip code does indeed match, and not just be in status 'delivered'.

Evidence of successful delivery

·10 months agoI would not say that but yes in nearly every scenario where a seller uses an ebay label delivery is delivery.

·10 months agoUntrue, and ebays own policy contradicts that.
If buyer opens an INR and its marked as delivered, but the zip codes don't match then the buyer will win the INR.
If they didn't then scammers could just mail themselves with zone 1 labels.
Also, if the zip doesn't match due to misdelivery with ebay labels, then the buyer should win as policy states and seller should file insurance claim.

·10 months agoI wouldn't do anything. If Ebay states the package has been delivered then you as the seller did what you were suppose to do. Tell the buyer that the tracking number states delivered and by it being delivered you done your part. They need to contact the carrier cause you printed out the label and shipped the package to the address on file. If they were to file an "item not received" case you as the seller will win the case.

This address/ zip code sounds like it might be a freight forwarder.
I had a similar situation a few months ago where the buyer opened a Item Not Received (INR) claim. The address basically had 2 zip codes (I don't really understand it, something about the number of packages going to that one place was given its own code?).
At first, the INR was found in favor of the buyer, but when I appealed, it was found in my favor.
If the buyer has done nothing, then you should do nothing.
If the buyer opens an INR, you should Update Tracking Number (it's already there, but you need to copy and paste it in again), and then go from there.

OP10 months agoYeah I have a feeling this is the case. We'll see what they do. Thanks!

·10 months agoIf your tracking number states delivered then Ebay will determine that the package has been delivered. You would win a "item not received" case then. Did you print out a shipping label or did you actually write the address on the package and paid retail shipping? It's the buyers responsibility to have the correct shipping address on file.

OP10 months agoI printed the label through Ebay using whatever address the buyer had on file. The buyer hasnt opened a missing package claim or anything yet, just sent me a message. Should I instruct the buyer to open a claim and let Ebay handle it?
