Buyer Needs To Return An Item, But I Have Already Declined One Return Request
Hi guys,
I’ve run into a bit of a problem with one of my sold items. The buyer has had problems with the item and needs a return. The problem is that the buyer has already filed a return request with the reason “changed my mind†- which I declined because I do not accept any returns for that reason. After further conversation with the buyer, there were real issues with the item, and I want to give them a refund. However, they cannot start another return. I really wish to do this in a way that won’t harm my reputation and will allow me to receive my item back before refunding. Does anyone have any clue how to do this?

·2 years agoI hate to tell you this but a valid reason for a return whether you do not accept buyers remorse is still honored on here by Ebay. The changed mind option is clearly on ALLRETURN REQUESTS. Better to just accept all return requests on here or you are going to be in a difficult position each time. Sometimes these denied return requests turn into Credit Card chargebacks on here and you will be fighting to get your item back and/or will loose your merchandise and money.

OP2 years agoI’ve heard some reports of others getting defects on their accounts after refunding customers without going through the official return process. Otherwise this is a fine idea. Obviously I lose out on a refund for eBay fees, but I really do want to do right by this person, so I’d be down for it. Just a bit worried about the potential for a defect, especially because some people are reporting out of stock defects, which I understand are fairly severe. I’d love some clarification on this before I go for it. I’m already losing a lot on this whole thing, so if there’s any sort of defect I’m probably out.

·2 years agoYou’ve already mailed the item and the buyer has received it so there shouldn’t be any reason to get an out of stock defect. And there is no unresolved claim so you wouldn’t get a defect for that either. I doubt that anyone can give you a definitive answer but I really don’t see why you would get one.

·2 years agoAs someone here already said, you won't get an out of stock defect. The ONLY way you can still get one is if you click to "cancel order" and use the "out of stock" reason rather than click to "send refund". I've refunded buyers this way before and have never gotten a defect for it. I can't guarantee it will be the same for you as I don't work for ebay (though some members might beg to differ). But I'm sure if you contact ebay and tell them your story, the rep will suggest my resolution. So it might be a good idea to ask them and get piece of mind. But then again also realize that ebay reps may not know the complete workings of ebay and it's policies.
Honestly, the only other way would be to have the buyer return the item to you and rather than "refunding" them, you venmo, paypal, or zelle the buyer back their money. You will be subject to ebay fees here since ebay has no knowledge that you gave the buyer back their money. But I don't see why any seller would willingly do that.

·2 years agoI hate to say this but a return request can only be opened once. Once the seller (you in this matter) decline the return, then there is no way for a buyer to return on here.
In Close a return request, it says this in an orange box
Source:(https://www.ebay.com/help/buying/returns-refunds/return-item-refund?id=4041)
You won't be able to re-open the request once it's closed.
Since you do not accept returns for any reason and the buyer used a remorse reason, remorse reasons do not force a return but can be declined. Since the return request cannot be opened, there is nothing that can be done on eBay
The buyer may peruse a charge back via CC or their bank as a heads up

·2 years agoDo the return outside of eBay. There’s no policy that says you ABSOLUTELY have to process returns thru eBay’s returns system. The buyer has to trust that you’ll refund them though since they won’t have buyer protection.
Make a return postage label for the buyer and send it to them to return your item back. They can see with the tracking number when it arrives to you. When it does, you can use the “send refund†option on the transaction to give the buyer their money back.
If done successfully, your account will not be affected.
