Buyer didn't put their apartment # on address so now fedex is returning the package to me
Buyer opened an "Item not received case" and said fedex is returning the package to me. This is seemingly a buyer mistake for not putting their apartment number on the address. Not sure how to proceed though? I presume there is no way to have the item re-shipped with the same label? How do I ask the buyer for $$ for a new label?

OP9 months agoJust an update the buyer said they found the package in their apartment. Probably was the first time they had something delivered and had no clue where to pick things up..

·9 months agoHey @thisisall1word - what does tracking show? I just realized you didn't share that info. Does it show invalid address, delivery attempt, return to sender, refused, something else? Can you copy/paste?

·9 months agoI see two possible scenarios.
1. The FEDEX Ground driver saw no apt # and never decided to leave the truck to try to deliver, saving his valuable time.
2. The FEDEX Ground driver thinks the buyer is a <bleep> and decided not to leave the truck and try to deliver. <Bleep> the buyer.
Either is likely for FEDEX drivers.

·9 months agoHi @thisisall1word . In a few days you'll see an option to ask eBay to step in. Select that, choose the reason shipped with tracking, and in the comments say the buyer provided an invalid address at checkout. eBay will find the case in your favor.
After the case is closed you can use "send refund" from the transaction and refund the buyer item cost less shipping and less prorated fees. You are not required to, but I think it's the 'right' thing to do if you get the item back. Don't send any refund until you have the item back in your possession.
Below screens give you an idea of what to do with the INR.

·9 months agoGoogle the address to see what type of building it is first of all.
I live in an apartment building and get packages whether with or without an apartment number.
A lot of buildings have the doorbell with the person's last name outside of the building.
Was package perhaps refused...have to wait to see if any information is on package.
Would I re-ship? Maybe not...depends on the return and what the building looks like.
But...add tracking to the eBay case...
And wait before sending out any emails to buyer...

OP9 months agoDo I get any refund from ebay or fedex for the shipping label? Or do I just have to eat the cost of a buyer's mistake?

·9 months agoThere is no refund of the shipping label.
It was used.
Once you receive the item back, refund the cost of the item only.
Then relist the item.
The buyer then can repurchase and input the correct address - or someone else can buy it.

·9 months agoNo there’s no refunds on a used label. Sorry.
Why would you be eating the shipping cost? From looking at your listings your buyers paid you to ship. It’s your buyer that’s out the shipping cost not you.

·9 months agoYou proceed by uploading tracking into the case. The buyer voided MBG due to incomplete address. The shipper attempted to deliver and could not.
No you cannot reuse an already used label. I would refund purchase price only .
If the buyer wants to repurchase he/ she can after you relist.

OP9 months agoOk, thanks. I just updated the case to include the tracking number which it already pre-filled for me. Do I need to send the buyer any message? They are still expecting me to send them the package back once I get it.
Or does ebay and a human need to get involved to see that it was returned due to wrong address ( buyer's fault ).

·9 months agoYou can post a message within the case let the buyer know their address was insufficient and the item is being returned to you.
Oh no you don’t want to involve eBay! They will find in favor of the buyer regardless of what’s happening and give you a defect for not dealing with the case yourself.
