Buyer broke item and wants to return it
he order my 366 item and when he got it he said it was broken i told him to show pictures of the damage and i was thinking it was going to be her wings and staff (thats the most common for it to break there) and it was her leg and head broken i asked for a picture of the box and it was undamaged… i wrapped her so well and double tapped the box and bubble wtap her twice and inside the box how did break in the most uncommon places, i told him to report it to the post office also but he ignored it and just said to refund him. i cant do 50/50 because i had no refunds this really unfair because i just lost 300 plus dollars for something i didnt even do, even my dad helped wrapped it ebay is so buyer sided

How do you know where the statue 'should have been broken'? Just fyi, I received a pkg in perfect condition, and the vase inside was triple covered in bubble wrap and tape, and smashed to pieces. (not double boxed to protect it from jolts, needless to say).

·6 months agoThis was the 100% wrong way to handle his claim.
It's your job to get the item to the buyer intact. You didn't do that.
It's not the buyer's job to "report it to the post office."
You need to issue a full refund to the buyer and if you want the item back to make a claim yourself, you need to pay for the return shipping label.
Note that if the box isn't damaged, the damage is a result of poor packing and probably wouldn't have happened if you're double boxed.
ETA: FWIW, your reply to the well deserved feedback doesn't do you any favors. Instead of an apology, you are defensive.

·6 months agoBuy showed photos...so it is broken?
You have to refund the buyer.
Do you want it back?
Broken usually can't be resold.
Insurance claim is for usually for lost items.
If you don't refund...eBay will take funds from you eventually and that could hurt your selling account.
Items can get broken in a box and box will still look perfect.
It does happen.

As the seller YOU are responsible for reporting to USPS.
Just this week I had an item well wrapped and packaged in a box 2" larger on all sides.
The buyer messaged me with photos showing no damage to the box but the items head was broke.
The buyer is also a seller and also could not understand how this happened.
I promptly refunded the buyer. Which is what you should do also.
I didnt call her a scammer or say she broke it.
I didnt file with USPS because they seldom honor the insurance.
eBays MBG trumps your no returns.
Please read it.
It honestly doesnt matter how it got broken, the seller is responsible for getting the item to the buyer in one piece.

·6 months agoGosh, that's unfortunate...
sorry to hear that happened.
I don't think there's anything you can do...
except take the return.
I had a glass smashed to pieces, recently...
in an undamaged box.
The buyer said it only took one flat throw on the ground to do it...
which I thought was weird
like they, themselves had done it
BUT
you just don't know
and it's your responsibility, of course.
I really feel bad for you, though...
good luck.

·6 months agoThe problem is you can't prove the buyer broke it, and as the seller, it's your responsibility to make the buyer whole.
Have the buyer return it, then file an insurance claim with the shipper to get your money back.
P.S. You said you "double tapped" the box. Are you sure you don't mean "double TAPED"?

OP6 months agodouble taped yeah but but for those things to break when its not common for them too break and the box being undamaged it doesn’t make sense how else did it happen that box was filled with filler so she wouldn’t move inside it

·6 months agoDid you double box that fragile item? One slam and it doesnt matter how much bubble wrap and tape you used.

·6 months agoHi @ja8231-86
Did you double-box the item? Concussions can happen within undamaged boxes.
Why does breakage of an unexpected part mean that the buyer must have done it? You think the buyer broke the head and leg deliberately?
I’m really sorry this happened, but blaming it on the buyer … without any evidence … is shameful IMHO.

OP6 months agoi didn't double box it and how is it shameful?? the box was unharmed and the item was covered and every inch of it was covered with bubble wrapped and double coated with it even the box inside… the common thing for the item to break while being shipped is her wings and staff but some how her leg and head snapped off? and for the buyer not to report it to the post office and just point the blame on me when i did everything i could to make sure that item was safe .. I shipped glass before.. i dont think my wrapping was the problem

Not double-boxing a fragile item is careless … not shameful. [You apparently are unfamiliar with the numerous cookie jars that are received broken … in pristine boxes. They CONCUSS.]
I’m sorry, but the buyer did exactly right by refusing to go to the post office … especially since it apparently was your THIRD request of the buyer without taking any action yourself.
With all due respect, contacting the post office is … and always has been … the SELLER’s responsibility. Buyers can be asked to hold onto the broken item and packaging materials in case the post office requests them … BUT it is NOT their job to start the process.
And again, it is blaming the buyer without evidence for the breakage that is shameful IMHO.

If you had insurance on this fragile item, and did not double box it, you will have a problem collecting that insurance. The P.O. is famous for saying 'insufficient packaging' in these cases. Its not the buyers job to report it to the p.o., its yours, as the shipper. Your job is to refund the buyer if you dont want it back, or send a return label first if you do.
