Buyer bought 1 item from a Qty 4 listing & has bought 1 more & is requesting I "refund" 1st shipping
Ok so this is a bit lengthy but it requires a bit of detail (tl,dr -kinda- at the end)
Buyer purchased a single item from a Quantity 4 listing (with 1 already sold so it would've said "1 SOLD, 3 AVAILABLE") meaning they had to use the drop down dialog box to select 1 (or bypassed the dialog box & the quantity defaulted to 1).
This same buyer just placed an order for another Quantity 1 of the same item with a Buyer's Note that reads:
Buyer note
This was written as 4 items in the description. I am buying
a second one, but would have purchased it originally if
that had been made clear. Please refund the shipping for
this item. Thank you very much
So to break this down
• Firstly the title & description read:
[[Title: LEGO 6029a White Cattle Horns Animal Body Part Minifigure Headgear Accessory
Full Description: LEGO 6029a White Cattle Horns Animal Body Part Minifigure Headgear Accessory
Qty 4
Original pieces from early 1990s sets (King Kahuka, etc.)

• I use 2 templates for my descriptions & on multiple quantity listings I use the plural template for instances in which a buyer purchases more than 1 item from that listing with the understanding (or so i had believed) that the presence of a CHOOSE HOW MANY YOU WANT TO BUY dialog box would elucidate any ambiguities. In the title, I use singular nouns. (As for "horns" in the title, that is part of the item name as it appears in the bricklink catalog, I just omitted the hyphens for the 80 character limit)
• I can sort of see where they could've gotten confused when reading Qty 4 but I use all singular nouns "Part" "Accessory" and above all, multiple item listings sold as 1 item do not have a "Select Amount" Drop down dialog box
• They claim they would've bought 2 had they known it was only a listing for 1 item. Which makes no sense in the context of them believing it to be a Quantity of 4 as 1 listing. That would mean they wanted 8 pieces altogether.
• I try not to look at everything through a highly skeptical lens but this exhibits all the signs of someone with buyer's remorse who wants something for free - and we all know eBay's lack of seller-oriented resolutions emboldens this exact type of opportunistic fraud.
Above anything else, my #1 goal is maintaining my 100% Positive seller rating. I feel that this buyer, if I don't "refund" or, rather, discount the shipping on their new order, that they will get vindictive with their review
tl,dr: Buyer bought 1 item from a Quantity 4 listing & has now bought 1 more & is requesting I "refund" the previous shipping because they thought they were receiving 4 items - but that doesn't make sense because why would they settle for 2 -leaving 1 item unpurchased as 1 item from that listing sold between their 1st & 2nd purchase. My issue: i don't want to refund shipping for what I see as buyer's remorse/greed but also don't want to open a door for them to give me 2 negative seller reviews because I've managed to maintain a 100% rating & 2 negative reviews could easily bring that down
Any advice, help, similar experiences will be much appreciated.
Oh & I ship these eBay Standard Envelope with the item nestled in a piece of corrugated fiber board in which I have cut out the items outline leaving an indentation in which the item stays securely in place so the refund would be max $1.32

·8 months agoFrom what you have described, it seems the difference here between a happy buyer and a bad feedback is $1.32.
The choice becomes very clear.
It only makes sense to make the small refund to keep both the sales - and to make your buyer happy.
As far as trying to understand why someone does something, we leave that up to the professionals.

·8 months agoThere's always gotta be that ONE person who just doesn't get something...
I think the thing for me is the picture showing 4.
A "lazy" buyer might breeze over your description and go by the photo.
What would I do?
I'd probably refund if it's under $2.
...but that's not to imply you are "wrong".
I'm not even sure they understand they are only getting one piece with their message...

·8 months agoIf it's an inexpensive item(s)....refund shipping and / or item.
And too many emails back and forth to the buyer will probably get a bad feedback.
I learned a long time ago if it's under $10. I do the refund ASAP and move on.
Usually then the buyer leaves NO feedback.
Feedback is more important than $10. or $20. dollars...especially where I live where a glass of wine in a bar will be $10. plus a tip.

OP8 months agoRight I get that but it's the fact that they're purchasing another one & wanting the previous shipping amount for their first order refunded. So how many hats are under this hat? What's to stop them from ordering morre & making further reaching requests for various refunds? I keep communications to a minimum. I message only when it's necessary. Had they not ordered 2 of the 4 items in that listing I would offered them a refund already. It's the fact they ordered then give the appearance that they're unsatisfied & then order another all the while giving explanations that make no sense. The item is worth more than what I'm selling it for because I make up the difference in the shipping cost. I'm assuming this buyer knows the value of this item & is planning to resell it which I'm fine with but I'm not ok with refunding the shipping due to them not looking at the item details & just making assumptions. In every description I use a template I made meticulously which strongly encourages messaging me with any questions. If I were in their shoes expecting x amount & seeing that 1 piece is included, I would message is it 1 or 4? However I wouldn't be in that situation because in the context of how quantity orders work, it's rather obvious that 1 included item means 4 items available 1 time each otherwise in Number of Pieces included it would say 4. And item description seems to take precedence over item description as item description is optional & not even displayed unless brought up manually. Not to mention the verbiage in the title should have been digestible enough from the onset.

·8 months agoComplete the transaction and then then block the buyer. They will not buy anything else from you with that account.

·8 months agoYou posted an image of item specifics not the description.
The description clearly says quantity 4.
Your buyer has a valid item not as described if they wanted to return fully.
Should learn to accept your mistakes and make adjustments.

·8 months agoIt does not matter what the title says if on other parts of the listing you have contradictory information.
Im not sure if you are being intentionally obtuse.
clllayton645
OP8 months agothere is no contradictory information. there are 4 items available within this 1 listing - in the Specifics it clearly states 1 under Number of Pieces . even the most barely literate reader should be able to deduce that there are 4 pieces for sale & they can purchase 1, 2, 3 or 4 pieces. the title in the listing is for a part - singular. Not a Lot nor a Set nor a Pack but a single Part. The first buyer who purchsed one item from this listing correctly understood they were purchasing 1 part. which is what made me instantly skeptical about the 2nd buyer's request for a shipping refund in their buyer's note that accompanied their 2nd purchase from this listing. the shipping is more than the item amount & i priced the item lower than its value. all this in conjunction appears to me to be as reseller hoping to maximize their flipping profit by eliminating the shipping cost from their overall investment. a buyer not reading item specifics to make an informed purchase does not entitle a buyer to receiving more than what they paid for.

·8 months agoIt is contradictory to show 4 items in your photos, state in your listing quantity of 4 and to please see pictures for condition as the items pictured are the exact items you will receive. Those are your exact words.
It's news to me that lego pieces are permitted to go ESE. I'll have to look at my items to see if any of my little things qualify. I didn't know the list of items allowed included things like that.
clllayton645
OP8 months agohow when Number of Pieces is clearly filled in with the number 1. They received 1 piece as promised, the buyer didn't take the time to read the item specifics which are an actual set of questions eBay wants sellers to provide very cut & dry disambiguated answers for. which i did, accurately & honestly. 1 piece, 4 of which available or in short, Qty 4 each quantity includes 1 piece. perhaps i was too generous in a buyer's ability to understand what they're reading
robbie31415
·8 months agoYou can't put quantity 4 in description like that.
That would mean you have 4 sets of 4.
If anyone is confused its you in what 'item description' means.
clllayton645
OP8 months agothat would only be if i put 4 in NUMBER OF PIECES + Qty 4. i put 1 in number of pieces. and wouldn't ya know a listing of 1 piece with a quantity of 4 available adds up to a qty 4 listing. wild, isn't it?
janet9988
·8 months agoYOU specifically typed in quantity of 4 in your description. that does not change with every sale. Even your own picture shows 4. You should have shown 1. YOU simply needed to remove that instead you keep it in and expect buyers to understand your own confusion of what you did.

·8 months agoYou can't ship LEGOs ESE.
According to your description, they are buying 4 pieces.
If they bought two, they will be expecting to receive 8 pieces.
clllayton645
OP8 months agoYou can ship lego "pieces & parts" ese but not "Minifigures" or "Bricks" or "sets" I've shipped several this way & see that others do as well. Essentially you can ship anything ese so long as you can keep the thickness underneath 0.25 & even throughout. Ese only appears as an option in certain categories regardless if you meet the dimension & weight requirements or not. If it appears as an option in a category that means you're permitted to use it otherwise it won't appear as an option.
As for the Quantity 4, that's the verbiage I've used in previous Qty X listings without any issues & I believe some received positive reviews or at least did not receive any complaints just this buyer specifically. I communicate through messages as well so that buyers are informed throughout .Reference my Fazoli's POGs listing for an example. Idk if you sell much LEGOs but in my limited experience I've found that people who actually purchased LEGOS as an actual investment are typically very aware & current on the fluctuating value of LEGOs. I'm simply clearing out Rubbermaid totes that no longer occupy space in my parents house because the totes are now in my apartment as I sort & sell them. So a LEGO enthusiast would recognize rather quickly if a piece is over or undervalued as 4 for that price would be quite undervalued. I'll update the posts although I feel even a rudimentary understanding of linguistics and context clues wouldn't result in confusion like this. To call that deceptive unfair because if they thoroughly looked at the item description under NUMBER OF PIECES, I selected 1. So that's laziness on the buyer's part if we're aiming for honesty here. Had I selected 4 I would agree but that's not the case here. I suppose i should have included this picture too. NUMBER OF ITEMS INCLUDED : 1

·8 months agoNo, toys don't qualify for ESE.
janet9988
·8 months agoIt was YOUR mistake to even use quantity of 4 in the description as that will still state quantity of 4 even when you do not have 4.
Do the right thing and Make the buyer happy.
AND most importantly TAKE THE quantity out of the description.
Very deceiving and contradictory terms.
