Coins can't be shipped ESE as they are rigid and won't make it through the sorting machine.
"Flexibility.Shipped envelopes are processed at sorting centers that use machinery with rollers, so envelopes need to be flexible enough to bend accordingly."

Coins have been allowed in ESE since the beginning of ESE.
The envelope as whole needs to be flexible. It can have a few coins in it and still curve around an 11" wheel. As long as the coins are spaced out across the envelope and sandwiched in paper or card so it's not bumpy, it should be fine. The real problem is loose/poorly attached coins, those will be squeezed out by the rollers at such speed it's hard to find the slit in the envelope edge.
@angelosstuff eBay Standard Envelope is only for certain items and only for certain categories. Examples include sports cards, patches, and coins, just to name a few. The item sold must sell for $20.00 or less. eBay Standard Envelope does not come with traditional tracking like you get with Ground Advantage. Instead, tracking is limited to scans as the envelope processes in sorting facilities. Sometimes there are no scans. Assuming it receives a delivery scan, the scan will happen anywhere from hours to a day or two before the envelope is actually delivered. There are specific criteria as to the size of the envelope, and if you don't get it right, USPS will pass along adjustment charges to eBay (who will charge you), possibly even at the Priority Mail rate.
Coins, buyer had paid for standard shipping then asked me to use e-bay standard envelope.
Coins are fine as long as they are not in any kind of holder. You will want to tape them, spaced out a bit, inside a folded sheet of paper or greeting card type card stock. And only use regular paper envelopes.
If you use #10 or similar size envelope, you will need to attach the label skewed to the right so the "stamp" is close to the corner. You can put them in the letter or metered mail slot at your PO, drop them in a 'blue box' or leave in your mailbox for your carrier to take. DO NOT hand them to a counter clerk, many don't know what they are and question them or just toss them with packages.

·8 months agoExperience with the use of ESE varies depending on how different sellers pack.
I do not use it any more. 20% of my ESE shipments were very late, lost or damaged.
I prefer not to make a sale than have to deal with a problem after the sale. Those frugal buyers will need to find someone else.
Ebay has been tinkering with the categories which may be shipped using ESE. The category many of my items were listed in no longer permits ESE.
I prefer all of my shipments to be parcel mail and avoid letter mail like the plague.

·8 months agoAlso, please note that the SELLER sets the shipping, not the BUYER. You do not have to comply. With less protections, I wouldn't.

·8 months agoYes they can have issues but to say coins can't be shipped ESE is factually incorrect and many sellers ship coins ESE without many issues.

·8 months agoThey offer very little protection. Unless it's an item you can afford to lose, I would use better packing.

Shipping ESE would be downgrading shipping and you can't do that.
