Business Shipping Policy Reassign Error "Please provide a valid Shipping Package type"
First of all, I am not new to eBay and do not want obvious wrong answers. 25 years here.
Please, just move on if you don't understand or can't help. And especially if you can't comprehend harnessing the power of Business Policies.
Has anyone who had this glitch ever figure it out?
1) Changed a bunch of shipping policies from Flat Rate shipping to Calculated
2) Many worked as they should
3) Many had "Errors found"
4) "Activity log" under the failed "Copy" has these answers in from download in Excel.
"Please provide a valid Shipping Package type."
Of course the Shipping Policy is correct.
The weight and dimensions are right.
Most changes worked but a bunch of items appear to be glitched.
There is nothing we can see wrong with them other than eBay stopped showing them to people. Go figure.
For example one policy, 49 worked but 6 did not.
There is nothing wrong with the 6. They are the same as the 49.
Another one 15 worked, 11 did not. Higher failure rate. No known reason.
so on.
I tested this maneuver on 4 selling accounts.
We sell a lot in multiple stores, some of you may be our customers. Hi!
Only one account of 4 has the glitched listings that won't update.
I can manually go into a failed listing and update the policy on an item level and it takes with no errors as if everything is fine, but that is not the answer.
The way eBay has been the last 10 years or so, I assume the listings are glitched on an item # level and would rather not do that for tons of listings one by one when you you are supposed to be able to reassign policies with the click of a button. We do note that features GUI did change for the worst recently as most GUI's on the site are.
I would rather find out why eBay is treating these listings as if they are invalid when they are not.
So as it stands tons of listings have an imaginary "Shipping Package type" missing or invalid. Only on one account. Happens to be the same account always running into this "We couldn’t send 1 offer due to an unexpected error. Please try again later."
Any ideas or similar experiences?
Thanks!

·10 months agoAnother thought here @7catsprinting . Don't use "reassign listings."
Instead, use the biz policy filter on your active listings page, then pull those listings into the bulk editor, then choose a new policy in bulk edit and save.
If the error is with the "reassign listings" function that could get you around it.

OP10 months agoFigured I would start with Download to look inside and it is not even an option anymore?
It is there but says "Missing condition details - required (0)"

·10 months agoYou're looking at the active listings page and that download report is exclusively for listings missing required item specifics. You used to be able to download reports for any listings missing 'recommended' IS but eBay deprecated that option.
You have to go to Seller Hub > Reports > Downloads to download a file of active listings, but as I mentioned before, since eBay removed the field from the listing form (it only exists on the back end), it's not going to pull into that report. You can include it on Uploads though.
Any chance you can provide a couple of item numbers @7catsprinting ? I'd like to take a look at an impacted listing to see if I can spot any flags and maybe come up with another option to try.

·10 months agoHi @7catsprinting . I haven't seen others reporting this, but I have a theory.
Years ago eBay removed "package type" from the listing form, however it still exists on the back end. On new listings the package type defaults to package unless the seller is using sell similar from an old listing that had different data.
If your listings predate this change, then it's possible you have the wrong package type on the form or perhaps no package type at all.
My suggestion is to overwrite the package type field on those listings with an update. Using file upload:
Header Field Name: PackageType
Value: PackageThickEnvelope
Please come back and let us know if that fixes the problem.

OP10 months agoThis sort of makes sense. I'll have to test it on a few but last time I tried file upload many years ago it did not go as planned.
These are newer listings where the option never did exist but many of these listings were likely "Sell Similar" even if they are newer.
If I can figure it out, I'll let you know how it goes.
Header Field Name: PackageType
Value: PackageThickEnvelope

·10 months agoThe reassign function does have its problems. The only thing that sometimes straightens this problem out is to delete all old or unused policies before you do the reassignment.

·10 months agoIn order to do that you must first ensure there are no listings attached to the policy you are going to delete.
