Authentication Guarantee taking 3 months or more
Summary: my3grits expressed concern over a significant delay in eBay's Authenticity Guarantee process for a card they sold, noting the expected transit to PSA by 2027. bdmh-enterprises suggested the delay might be due to additional grading or vaulting processes chosen by the buyer. dolcetreasures confirmed this possibility, explaining that opting for PSA grading can extend the timeline due to current backlogs. my3grits appreciated the insights and realized the buyer likely selected additional options leading to the prolonged wait.
I recently sold a card that was automatically sent for Authenticity Guarantee, per eBay standards. Buyer paid, sent it mid-Sept, and checking its tracking number recently, it is still in transit with arrival date to PSA on Dec 14, 2026 - Jan 27, 2027. WHY is it taking that long for shipment (used eBay's labeling system)? This is the first time I've done this authentication - is this normal timeline? If it is, I will not sell high-value cards on this platform again. I could have easily sent it to PSA directly for a shorter turnaround. In the meantime, myself and the buyer have a long wait that is out of our hands. Anyone else experiencing/experienced this?

·1 week agoMy guess would be the buyer chose to have the card graded by PSA, there’s a toggle which gives a buyer the option to have the card not just authenticated but graded. The lead time on the grading is over 3 months, but PSA is really quite backed up these days.

OP1 week ago · EditedIt makes sense if the buyer chose that route. I thought over 3 months was unusual for authentication, as eBay touts a quick turnaround. Thank you for your helpful reply!

·1 week agoI've never had authentication take more than 5 days after they received it. It sounds like your buyer is having the card sent to PSA for grading or vaulting after the authentication? Has it been authenticated and is now on the way to that? If so that would be the delay, but not for you to worry about.

OP1 week ago · EditedThe card sold was ungraded. I've just looked at order details again ("still on its way") and on the very top, it stated that "This is a PSA Vault order." Is that the reason? I didn't realize the buyer chose this option and that his order would take much longer. I suppose the buyer understands the long wait, but I'll pass along the shipping information. Thank you for your reply and reassurance!
