August 8th USPS Ground Advantage Zone Increase & eBay Calculated Shipping?

Since USPS Zones are based on distance from shipping location, rather than rural delivery locations (as some of us mistakenly believed). How can eBay negotiate it's calculated shipping rates to offset some of the the zone based rates in what looks like an endless and steep increase in USPS rates? At some point it becomes undoable especially for sellers who live in large land mass states in the West, or on the coasts. For some of us, an items will be in these zones before reaching the border of our own state! *Also, how does USPS account for items that take longer and indirect routes...those are miles but are baked in for logistics, things don't always take direct routes?

USPS postal zones are used to calculate shipping costs based on the distance a package travels from its origin to its destination. There are eight primary zones, each representing a different distance range.

USPS® Ground Advantage rate update effective August 8, 2026
We have an update to share about USPS Ground Advantage rates. Effective August 8, 2026, USPS updated rates for select Ground Advantage shipments, including those purchased through eBay Labels.
This update only affects:
Packages weighing 3–5 lbs
Shipments to Zones 5–8
Here's what's changing:
Zone 5: Rates will increase by $1.00
Zones 6–8: Rates will increase by $2.00

·Aug 11, 2026 at 3:13 PM · EditedNOBODY believes that Shipping on eBay is based on Rural Delivery Zipcodes alone (with the exception of Priority Flat Rate Packaging) as you imply and we all know nothing has changed with how USPS Zone pricing works. Whenever eBay addresses shipping price changes, it is in terms of their Pricing they provide us based on the USPS Base Commercial Rate Tables. The actual table doesn't change with the wind, but...any flexible or deeper discount BELOW that price that USPS gives (or takes away in this case) to say eBay or Pirateship is what is occurring. A Rural Zipcode shipment will give the Seller the standing Commercial Label Cost and nothing deeper. A Non-Rural Zipcode will give the Seller the Commercial Label Cost PLUS further discounting below that (if applicable). This Rural Discount configuration has been in place since 2024, it just wasn't as drastic because the discount changes were typically only a few cents or less than a dollar. And now with the removal of Ounce Tier Pricing on Ground Advantage...it is really getting attention.
