OP6 months agoIt says I ship to Brazil, but my potential customer is saying it wont let her.
Of course I want the sale but there's not much I can do ... but apologize and suggest that maybe she contact ebay.

You cannot find out whether EIS will ship your specific item to any country without going to the listing page, setting your location to that country and viewing the shipping charge.
EIS attempts to block any country which will not accept the shipment in their customs department.
Brazil is more protectionist than the wildest dreams of our president and many items are banned for import or tariffed heavily. If your listing does not say you ship to Brazil, and your option is EIS, you do not ship to Brazil, and should not to avoid the shipment being seized in customs.
The idea is to make some extra money by exporting, not to lose money. Since Ebay takes the risks of a customs seizure it is careful to avoid the risk. They have more money than you or I and if they won't take the risk, I won't wither.

·6 months agoHi @inhawaii . To answer your question, you have to look at your individual listings. The settings advised above are unrelated since you aren't applying exclusions and you aren't shipping direct.
You'll never know which listings, categories, countries eIS may block and it's ever-changing. So to find out you go to your listing. Then you click 'see details' next to the ship cost.
When the shipping pop up appears, you change your location to the buyer's country. If you don't see their country on the list, then eIS has it blocked for that listing.
You might find a bunch of your listings that do ship to Brazil, and a bunch of others that don't. This is why I suggest checking on the individual listing to see if the country is in the drop-down.
Important: change back to US before closing out the pop-up, and re-enter your zip, otherwise it'll screw up your search results.

·6 months agoBrazil is one of those sketchy countries where it's like playing Russian Roulette whether buyer gets the item or not.
If it's a few bucks I usually ship it there...and usually the buyer saids item not received like months later.
If MBG expires...it expires.
Would I ship something #30.+ to there? If it was a potential customer asking me that I would probably block them before the sale...but that's just my past experiences with Brazil.

I use eIS too but I have a couple extra countries excluded just because I got sick of hearing their residents grumble about shipping rates that I can't even see, much less control.

·6 months agoCareful now, you said the "s" word (ship), don't be surprised if you find your post moved to the shipping board despite your question being about your business policies.
You'll find your exclusions in your Shipping Preferences, in your Account Settings, down toward the bottom. If you click on edit, and you use eIS it will take you back to your own business policies. From there, click on one of them (you'll probably have a zillion like everyone else), scroll to the waaaaaaaay bottom and you'll see a teeny tiny "excluded locations". If you open that up you'll see an extremely archaic list that will show you.

OP6 months agoI was under the impression that I ship anywhere/everywhere that ebay will ship to.
If ebay will ship it there for me, count me in.

Here is the link for countries eIS USA includes for shipping. There are notes at the bottom of eis page for specifics regarding Mexico. The list is VERY long and inclusive for US sellers. For the Canadian version we are limited to 30 countries . ...not including Mexico. (We've found sellers when checking a particular listing where other countries display---Like your Brazil for unknown reasons even when they are part of a sellers do not wanna ship to official list). More are supposed to be added down the road. Important to remember even tho a country may be allowed the item may not be due to local (buyers end) legal rules. Best to do a check prior to sending or item may dead end at hub. This gets reported from time to time by Canadian buyers for items bought via eis from US sellers. Those go to auction never neverland. Also very critical for items with lithium batteries to check the rules.

Canadian sellers have been noticing eBay's AI can be wonky when it comes to screening items. The system is set up as category centric (basically) but can be issues if an item gets created in inaccurate category.

As a side there can be special requirements for sellers shipping directly (outside of eIS) like additional customs documentation/documentation in another language or pkging enforcement for Germany. You may also need to now how to do Tetley Tea Dance before some items will cross a border. 😉
