ANYONE EVER HAD A PACKAGE PICKED UP BY USPS, THEY DO NOT SCAN IT AND IT "DISAPPEARS' from PLANET EAR
I once started a thread about, whether or not the USPS mailman scans packages they pickup. I got wide variety of answers: some do , some don't , some never to one saying they pick up NOTHING at all, much less scan. I was thinking the hypothetical situation of where they pick up package, do not scan and then poof it goes into oblivion and never heard from again. Do the USPS reimburse you for "lost package" after X amount of days????????? or they just tell u tough tittie. You out X amount of dollars?????????????? Since no scan then no proof???? Legally anyone taking Possession is liable for the value of what ever it is they took. You loan a gun to a friend they lose it they liable if u take them to court. I did have something CLOSE to this. I bought cheap racket in winter from auction. After a week no tracking confirmation from USPS I asked seller about2 weeks later if he had shipped and he said yes they had picked it up I did not care or worry with buyer guarantee etc no tracking after 4 weeks and he refunded me money even though I did not ask. Tracking eventually showed up. Just wondering if they happened to anyone or someone they knew???????????????

That's a really bad analogy rosemary6525. If you loan somebody a gun and they lose it, or use it don't be surprised if legally you also get held liable.
In the state I live in just loaning someone else a firearm is in of itself illegal unless I run a background check on them first just like they were buying it.
Bad analogy.............................................
Edit: Is planet Ear that new one I hear they found way out there?

·8 months agoThe only time packages I have picked up by a mailman are scanned is when a trainee from the postal training center in our town picks up the packages.
I have never had a package not scanned eventually, though sometimes the first scan is at the destination.

That being said, different carriers in different areas will have different rates of reliability. Just like some post offices scan their packages when you drop them off on the counter, and some don't.
USPS Ground Advantage comes with $100 of insurance when purchased through ebay, so if they lose your package you can file a claim and get the money back that you are refunding to the buyer --- but they have to scan it in first. Might be worth taking it to the counter to ensure they do.

·8 months agoI've had that happen when sub carrier picked up and didn't scan. One of the backup sort facilities near me (where packages are routed when volume is too heavy) has an internal theft problem. USPS will not pay out insurance claims because there are no scans confirming their possession of the package.

OP8 months agoI figured they would not pay them out if never scanned. Someone could just purchase a label for $5 then file a claim
