Anyone else still getting UPS/Fed Ex "Cost Adjustments"?
More of a venting post as there isn't much I can do about these companies just stealing money. I still on occasion get the cost adjustment here or there for a couple bucks refunded or deducted, but two weeks ago I got hit with some larger ones and another batch today. 2 from UPS and 2 from Fed Ex. 3 of them are complete nonsense.
9/30 I got these two adjustments from Fed Ex
$4.78 and $18.06
The $4.78 is an item I sell all the time and use the same box to ship it. Its 24x12x12 the correction said the box was actually 24x15x12 so magically my box grew 3 inches.
The $18.06 has me more irritated. Item was 31x30x5 Fed Ex agreed but charged me for Address Correction the label was printed directly from ebay without any change to the address so why almost double the shipping charge for something out of my control? Whatever that something even is.
I know a bunch of people are going to say, don't use Fed Ex, its your fault for using Fed Ex. Please note these are larger items that aren't feasible to ship through USPS. For good measure these two I just got from UPS today.
Keep in mind both these items were shipped in the same box.
$27.08 My dimensions 24x24x24 they said I was off and it was really 28x26x24
$16.49 My dimensions 24x24x25 they said I was off and it was really 25x25x25
I measure all of my packages and keep a tape measure handy. I'll give them the 25x25x25 if they want to be petty and round up because of 1/16" but the first package? come on. I actually lost money after fees and shipping on the $27.08 adjustment. As shipping total was $124.21 I believe I sold the item for $50 plus shipping (which wasn't enough as it was really old stock I had listed before shipping prices went up 2-3X. )
Please note I ship through UPS and/or Fed Ex daily. I use the same small handful of box sizes to ship almost all of the packages. Most go without issue others grow 3" it makes no sense. Some of the items are the same exact items in the same exact boxes. Larger boxes can vary 1" but I've never had a box off 3" or even close to it.
I can only imagine how much money these bogus charges are making these companies. It has to be in the 100's of millions.

·10 months agoOn Aug 18th UPS and FedEx both changed their rounding logic.
If it's 10.1" they rate it at 11".
Measure outer dimensions and round up.
As for the address correction surcharge, you should be able to contact CS and get a credit on that.

·10 months agothere was a change in August, anything over the "inch" will need to be rounded up or the carrier will do it automatically, so ya it's possible the 1/16 is the reason.
I have always rounded up even before ebay came along, any adjustments are extremely rare.
using ebay for fedex/ups is cheaper overall, if you use your own account then you get hit with fuel surcharges and sometimes the extended delivery fee or remote delivery fee tacked on, there good at that.
thru ebay it's one and done 99.9999999% of the time, I think I had one fedex adjustment this year because I shipped a item with a "handle" and it was not in a cardboard box. completely my fault, it kind of goes along with shipping anything that is shrink wrapped and not in a box, anything round that can roll, etc

OP10 months agoI know they are rounding up, but when I ship the same item in the same box and one according to UPS is 25x25x25 (Actually 24 1/16 x24 1/16 x 25) but I get the rounding up thing. And they tell me the other one is 28x26x24 there is no explaining that.
UPS and Fed Ex both need to be investigated for many of these charges and the lack of transparency. Problem with using Fed Ex/UPS through ebay is you cannot contact UPS or Fed Ex customer support for any of these charges.
