Any hat/baseball cap sellers here?
I sell quite a few hats/baseball caps.
Currently I am shipping them in a ebay 8" X 6" X 4" box.
The caps will barely fit in the box.
I have to "squeeze" them in.
I don't like having to do that.
Does anyone else here sell caps?
If so what size boxes do you use and where do you get them?

OP1 year agoI bought some 8X6X6 boxes from Amazon.
They fit a baseball cap PERFECTLY!
They cost me 70 cents each shipped.
6 cents less than the 8X6X4 boxes I get from ebay.
No more cramming baseball caps in a 8X6X4 box.
Problem solved.

·1 year agoAre you sh!!itting me? 8x6x4 are .70? That is crazy.

Just checked,
End of March I paid .39 per box for 6x4x4
That was a 200 count, including tax and shipping.
Grainger through eBay.

OP1 year agoWow.
I can't find boxes that cheap with free shipping to Hawaii.

·1 year agoI provided the same Grainger tip as @lakefor94 early on in this thread (post 4).
If you buy 50 boxes (qty of 2 x 25) your total will come out to $0.59 per box for the 7x7x7 size shipped to Hawaii, and $0.47 per box for the 6x6x6. I did not factor in sales tax. Follow the links.

·1 year agoI use 8x6x4 boxes. Not the eBay brand as they cost too much. I sell a ton of hats each year. This is the best box available for the price, anything bigger ends up costing more than it is worth to sell the hat. Had one person complain in 12 years

·1 year agoI do from time to time. I use an 8x8x8. There may be better suited boxes, but since I don't use boxes very often, I don't like to carry a lot of sizes & the 8x8x8 comes in handy for a few other hard goods I sell, it's quite versatile.
ETA: I don't worry about the shipping weight, I'm not paying shipping costs.

·1 year agoI use 8 x 8 x 6. I get the boxes from uline.

OP1 year agoMy plan worked.
I sold a cap after starting this thread. 😉

·1 year agoI sell a ton. I use 8x8x4 that I get in bulk from Uline. The box and hat come in at just under 8 ounces. Anything bigger and shipping goes to 12 ounces. In fact I can fit up to about 3 in that box so multiple orders are not a problem. 55 cents per box. Of course shipping to HI will add substantially. But if you have a local box store nearby? We have a couple in our area that buy Uline in bulk and then sell by the each (if you don't need too many) . I know my local Walmart has a fairly good selection.

·1 year agoI’ve ordered hats from Lids and they were sent in a bag. I use the same boxes as you. I’ve had no problems with regards to damaged brims or misshapen mishaps.

·1 year agoCurious what do ebay boxes of that size sell for?
You can get 100 boxes of all types of sized right here on ebay (plain boxes) for less than $1 a box.

·1 year agoI buy 8x6x4 boxes on Amazon 100 at a time for 35 cents each. I ship all my normal ball cap / trucker hats in them and have never had a single complaint about the shipping.

OP1 year ago$5.50 8x6x4 vs. $1.20 8x8x8
Free shipping to Hawaii.
It's hard to find anyone who will ship me cardboard boxes to Hawaii for free.

·1 year agoI have shipped hundreds of hats in 8x6x4 boxes with zero complaints on that aspect. They also come in under 8 ounces when you do that. If you switch to the larger box you both have the increased cost of the box and the fact that it puts you over the 8 ounce breakpoint which increases the shipping cost.
I suggest staying with 8x6x4.
inhawaii
OP1 year agoThanks!
I also have shipped hundreds of them in 8x6x4 boxes.
Only one complaint in years.
I just HATE stuffing them in there like that.
I'm sure you know exactly what I mean.
Besides the added cost of the box, I didn't even think about the 8 oz. to 12 oz. factor.
Oh well, It's already a done deal.
I'll see if it's worth the extra cost.
$5.50 vs. $1.20

·1 year agoYes, I know EXACTLY what you mean about stuffing them in there. However I am ruthless about keeping my costs and processing time down on items I sell frequently.

OP1 year agoThanks everyone!
I didn't realize ebay had 8X8X8 boxes.
I'm going to order some and see how they work for caps.

OP1 year agoI tried to measure my head to figure out what size box i need.
12" X 12" X12" 😉

You just have to wedge your political nonsense in everything, the OP asked a very simple question about shipping hats. Stick to the subject.

·1 year agoYou should ask sakic, he sells baseball caps, or at least he claims he never sells anything, but he probably has boxes just in case a miracle occurs and he has a sale.

OP1 year agoI do have 10 X 8 X6 boxes, and they do fit in that box with a little extra space.
Usually if i sell 2 or more caps to the same person i'll use that box.

·1 year agoEvery now and then I sell ball caps. When I do, I use 6x6x6 boxes purchased from Grainger here on eBay - or maybe I use 7x7x7, I can't remember. Haven't shipped ball caps in about a year.

I've been quite content with the ones shipped in a padded envelope - granted, not many sellers offer my
7-7/8 hat size, so it's not a huge number..
chevymontecarlo88
·1 year agoI would get them at Walmart. 11x8x6 roughly about a buck.
Also, would buy the gallon bread bags (100) for about 3-4 dollars that i would put the hat into and tape shut.
Never had an issue except for some buyers that wanted me to ship in a poly mailer which i refuse. (damage)

·1 year agoI've sold a bunch of hats over the years. Boxes is the way to go. I'm in a city with access to a lot of free clean boxes. I use the ones from the big online retailer "A"- the size is A3, and they measure 10 inch, by 7 inch, by 3 inch. I use clean tissue inside.
Best wishes with your sales. Kathy
