Amazon going into the shipping business, will ebay add the carrier to ebay labels?
https://techcrunch.com/2026/05/04/amazon-opens-up-its-global-logistics-network-to-all-businesses/
Short on details here, but it sounds like Amazon has decided to finally become a direct rival to UPS and Fedex (and the USPS). Will we eventually have an "Amazon Supply Chain Services" option for ebay labels?
We do live in interesting times....

·5 months agoIn rural areas, the nearest Walmart is often farther away than the post office.
A Chevron station might be a convenient drop-off location though....🤣

·5 months agoAmazon has been a direct competitor for a decade. They ship third party within their private network.

·5 months agoThat also means they have excess shipping capacity. Their sales could be down too?

·5 months agoAmazon already has superior logistics compared to USPS and they move and deliver on Sunday… which only increases speed. The issue I see for smaller sellers is where do I drop off packages? Amazon isn’t going to send a truck to collect the +/-10 a day I ship and there are more post offices than Amazon warehouses for sure.
I love it… more competition the better.

·5 months agoWell, Kohl's department stores already accept Amazon returns, so that might be one drop-off route that they could expand, to accept seller shipments elsewhere and to increase the number of drop-off locations to other major retailers. I'm sure they've already considered that.
(Department stores in general have way better open hours than USPS, too...)

·5 months agoI would never use Amazon shipping, after finding someone's Amazon package delivered into our backyard.

·5 months agoWell my wife watched Fedex throw a large box over our 7 foot gate just a couple weeks ago which is already behind a 6 foot block wall that they passed through so there was no need to even get it inside the 7 foot walled area.
Talk about a poor delivery company.

End-to-End Logistics: ASCS covers the entire supply chain, including international freight, customs clearance, bulk storage (Amazon Warehousing and Distribution - AWD), and final customer delivery.
Multi-Channel Fulfillment: Businesses can use Amazon’s network to fulfill orders placed on their own websites, social media, or other e-commerce marketplaces, not just Amazon.
Infrastructure Access: Provides access to over 200 U.S. fulfillment centers, 80,000 trailers, 24,000 intermodal containers, and over 100 cargo planes.
Advanced Technology: Utilizes machine learning to optimize inventory positioning for expected demand.
Usage Examples
Importing Inventory: Companies can import products from overseas, with Amazon handling shipping and customs clearance.
Bulk Storage & Distribution: Using AWD for low-cost bulk storage and replenishment to distribution centers.

·5 months agoThis is great news. I have frequently commented on this board that the day was coming when Amazon realized there is a need for another shipping service tailored for businesses. eBay may view Amazon as too much of a competitor to partner with them. I would not be shocked to see a deal between Amazon and Piriate Ship down the line. I'm also carefully watching Walmart. They have been expanding and improving their logistics. The day is coming, I do believe, when we will be able to drop packages off at our nearest Walmart.
Competition will be the solution to rising shipping costs.

·5 months agoI hope not. Pirateship is very well run specialist and doesn't need Amazon complicating matters.

·5 months agoAmazon won't deal with a third party when it contracts directly with USPS for rates. It's a large reason why USPS is losing money due to those contracts from years ago. USPS was desperate & Amazon told them they could guarantee volume. Little did they know how much volume...

·5 months agoAmazon is becoming the third party. Amazon is realizing they are a logistics company, and there is a huge untapped source of revenue for them by going into the shipping business, especially for other businesses - even Amazon competitors.

·5 months agoAmazon is not downgrading by becoming a third party. Amazon already is a first party end to end logistics network all on it's own globally. I can get items for sale in Japan Germany or Australia shipped in that network for a few dollars. They have been a First Party Carrier for over a decade. People like you are just finally opening their eyes & noticing it. I've known since the day I started working for them over a decade ago.

·5 months agoWhy bother, there are already services who Ebay integrates with who mask Amazon delivery numbers. If any of these companies care about Ebay (doubtful) they can do their own masking, or use a service.

OP5 months ago@tobaccocardyahoo why bother? If Amazon... As a carrier... Provides convenient pick up and fast delivery at competitive rates, well, why not offer it? I use USPS, but if Amazon will pick up my package or provide a convenient drop off, and deliver it as fast or faster than USPS, and perhaps for less money, well, I would certainly be tempted to use Amazon, especially if it is conveniently part of the eBay label system. Just as I would consider using UPS or FedEx under certain circumstances as well. Amazon would simply be an additional choice that eBay labels could provide.

·5 months agoI've always said Amazon is in the shipping business....they just found a way to make sure you use only them when you buy, you don't get a choice

·5 months agoI doubt it but that doesn't mean you can't use an Amazon service.
