Am I reading this wrong? Did I get a fee for the package being SMALLER than I paid for??
I got a message today saying there were some adjustments on one of my USPS shipping labels. When I opened it, it shows that I underpaid and will be charged an additional $1.42.
It says the reason is the "Package dimensions different than specified".
However, the actual dimensions are SMALLER than specified. (This was a poly envelope, and my listings with the poly envelopes are just set at 12x12x7 because that's the largest they can get).
I have filled out the form for a dispute, and I'll let you know when I hear something back, but I'm still completely surprised that whatever system they are using would have flagged this as an underpaid package.

·8 months agoMy guess is an error in the USPS system that meant to credit it but instead charged it. You should be able to check the charge through the payments page and see where they took it from, I would assume your ebay balance if the label was through ebay rather then directly from your paypal even if thats how you paid for the label. Also, @whitewaterford it shows the label purchased on Jan. 7th and rate changes didnt go into effect until Jan. 18th, so I dont think that would have caused this. And @mamacassidy , seeing how its only $1.42, is it worth the time and effort to try to be refunded this. It would make sense if it was $10 or more. I would recommend just making sure you measure and input the actual weight and dimensions rather then using the max your poly envelopes allow.

·8 months agoThe rate for the weight and size for both the original and actual are the same, so there should be no charge or credit. It looks like a glitch, I'd fight the adjustment, you should win without a problem.

·8 months agoThis may be a glitch like you say ... however, also note that the USPS rates increased a bit between when you mailed the original package and when you got the notice. In theory, you'd think their system would be smart enough not to flag this, but who knows?

·8 months agoThis is odd. Can you humor me and check your payment transactions page (or PayPal if that's how you paid for the label) to ensure this was actually a charge, not a credit?
I'm wondering if maybe it's just a display error on the label management page where it says "underpaid charge" instead of "overpaid credit."

OP8 months agoWell, as it turns out, there's no charge OR refund on my Paypal. In fact, there's no mention of it at all.
So, maybe this was just a glitch with the USPS system??
I already disputed the adjustment, so maybe I'll get some kind of response from that...

·8 months agoThank you for checking! OK so let's chalk this up to a display error and hope it's a one-off. If you see other reports please do @ tag me. 🙂

·8 months agoCan you verify you were charged and not credited.
I have a feeling its just eBays bad templates.

OP8 months agoYes, it says "underpaid adjustment" and "charged"
There was one I have from a while back that's still showing on my dashboard that says "overpaid adjustment" and "credited"

·8 months agoCan you show the breakdown for the adjustment.
Pretty sure eBay shows that right?

OP8 months agoI'm not sure what you mean. The picture I posted in the original post shows the Original size/ weight and then the Actual size/ weight.
Is that the breakdown you're asking about?

·8 months agoAre you sure you got charged for this? I'm guessing it's actually a credit you were given.
I remember having a couple of these minor overpayments in the past and I just looked one of them up in my payments list. The $1.56 amount in this case was a number in black, meaning it was a credit into my Ebay account.

·8 months agoJust an FYI; that comes from a BOT at USPS and does not come from Ebay. They just simply 'pass it on'.

OP8 months agoYeah, I know this is from USPS. I've actually had a couple before. In those cases, I felt they were fair or were mistaken on the weight (one time, they sent me one saying my package weighed 16lbs when it weighed 2lbs. I assumed it had gotten stuck with another one on the scale).
But I've never thought I would be charged for a smaller package. I don't know how their system could even have that programed in as an option.
