Advice on how to appeal FedEx shipping adjustment
I recently sold an item, and I shipped it via FedEx 2-Day. The package was 3 lbs and the box was 5x5x48, confirmed by the receipt.
I received an adjustment for $144.91(!) - and the tracking info says that the package was 8x7x50 and weighed 40 pounds. This was one golf club with some bubble wrap.
Is there any way that I can appeal this through eBay? I have tried looking around the customer service page, and they have made it painfully difficult to do anything. Any help appreciated!

·4 months agoWhen you purchased the label, did you make sure to select 'Oversized Package'? If not, you will be charged later for dimensional weight.
With UPS and Fedex all dimensions are rounded up to the nearest inch, never rounded down. This change was implemented a few months ago.

·4 months ago@palmsgalore777...you box exceeded fedex max for ground, even at your dimensions. You also face dimensional weight. So based on the size it was kicked up to another level. Also, FedEx adjustment put it over 130" grith which is another fee. Did this end up shipping fedex freight?
The seam breaking becomes an issue as well. Was this a factory new box or used? Seams should not break when constructed correctly. The box can crush, but the seam should hold. Or are you referring to packaging tape as the seal?
Btw, best to start a new thread for more to address your issue

·4 months agoThe real measurements that were correct 72x12x12 and I ship that "certified" box frequently. It only weighed 90 lbs which is under the limit. I think you got confused, FedEx damaged my box so their measurements were faulty. When I dropped the box off FedEx measurements were correct 72x12x12 put in the system. I have been doing this for 21 years shipping same sized box and weight and never used freight. This was my first ridiculous upcharge for that amount.

·4 months agoI just had a $354 upcharge FedEx for a box 72x12x12. The box was
mutilated and the damaged contents were out when the seam broke. FedEx's machine changed the box measurements to 79 x 17 x 12!!! FedEx isn't giving anyone easy directions to file for upcharges. You dont fill out a form for carrier upcharge claims. You have to call and ask for the people handling carrier upcharges. They file the claim for you and then someone contacts you for details. I spent 3 days finding this out. We mostly use Pirate Ship and their prices are low and their claims are very easy to file. We are not ever shipping with FedEx again. My bank account was cleaned out leaving me - $354. It has been 3 weeks and I can't afford to by labels so we are shutdown. They should have a human involved for each time the shippers measurements are changed. FedEx will not refund upcharges if it is $10 or less. We are done and using PirateShip now.

·4 months agoYou are mixing up two different issues: Upcharges and a damaged box. Insurance has nothing to do with upcharges.
You should have packed the item better by re-enforcing the box edges with strong tape.
PiriateShip does not offer FedEx, they only offer UPS and USPS. The claim process for filing USPS is the same as it is when you buy the label on eBay. Their claim portal for UPS is nice, but UPS is not going to pay you for a poorly packed item, no matter where you buy the label from.

OP4 months agoI’m sorry to hear that. Since my original post, I’ve had two subsequent shipping adjustments - though they were through UPS. One for $47.10 and another for $58.08. I shipped everything in U-Line 48x5x5 boxes, which I cut down by-hand to 45.5. I was still charged extra.
Before anyone tries to dogpile - I’ve been selling on eBay for 20 years, both on my personal and business account. I’ve made over 3.5K sales between them, and over 75% of sales were in the previously mentioned 48x5x5 boxes. I never, ever had an issue until 2026.
As it is, I’ve posted a few remaining items on eBay, and, after they sell, I’m done. The margins are too narrow, and it’s easier to sell them on FB marketplace and at my local golf shop. (They charge 20% off final sale price, and I don’t have to worry about shipping or promotional fees.)

·7 months agoThat's a carrier adjustment which is FedEx. Has nothing to do with Ebay. This is a common complaint and unfortunately you will be on the hook for the $144.91.

OP6 months agoThat isn’t true. eBay saw this post, and their shipping team investigated. I was provided a full refund yesterday.
While the onus is on FedEx or whichever shipping carrier is responsible to review the overcharge, if the label was purchased through eBay’s shipping tool, eBay initiates the claim with the shipper.

·6 months agoJust for future reference you can appeal UPS or FedEx adjustments but you are typically expected to request via customer service.
Sometimes their shipping team will pick up from the shipping forum but its rare.
Limitation the adjustment has to be greater than $10 unless it's an address correction adjustment, that can be less.
I wish eBay would just make a form to make the process easier.

·4 months agoEbay's directions for carrier upcharges is going to the FedEx link they provide. Ebay isn't doing the FedEx label investigations and dont help anymore until FedEx provides their investigation. It took me 3 months when having to go through eBay.
