Account Provisioning: Inventory API OAuth Tokens Rejected with 401
OAuth Token Authentication Failing for Inventory API - Seller Account Not Provisioned?
Hello,
I'm developing an automated inventory management system using the eBay Inventory API (REST).
My OAuth implementation is complete and working, but all API calls return 401 "Invalid access token"
despite successful token generation.
**Setup Details:**
- Seller Account:
- App ID:
- Environment: PRODUCTION
- OAuth Scopes Enabled: sell.inventory, sell.account, sell.fulfillment, sell.marketing, sell.analytics, commerce.identity, commerce.notification.subscription
**What's Working:**
✓ OAuth authorization flow completes successfully
✓ Tokens are generated in valid v^1.1 format
✓ App is configured in Production mode
✓ All required scopes are enabled in Developer Portal
**What's NOT Working:**
✗ ALL API calls return 401 "Invalid access token"
✗ Tested with 6 different authentication header formats - all return 401
✗ Example: GET /sell/inventory/v1/inventory_item?limit=1 returns 401
**Suspected Issue:**
The seller account may not be provisioned for Inventory API access on eBay's backend.
**My Question:**
How do I provisioned for the Inventory API? If not, how do I request provisioning?
Has anyone else encountered this issue? Any suggestions appreciated.

Hi @easternstar ,
Thank you for your post!
We would like to inform you that the getInventoryItems call of the Inventory API requires an access token generated using the authorization code grant flow, along with one or more of the following OAuth scopes (please check your Application Keys page for the scopes available to your application):
https://api.ebay.com/oauth/api_scope/sell.inventory
https://api.ebay.com/oauth/api_scope/sell.inventory.readonly
Additionally, there are no restrictions within the Inventory API or other Sell APIs. If you are still experiencing the issue, we kindly request that you submit a support ticket using the eBay Support Tickets page and include the request/response details along with the rlogId. This complimentary service will allow us to investigate the issue in detail.
Once we receive this information, we will be able to assist you more effectively.
Best regards,
eBay Developer Support

Authorization: Bearer xxxxTOKENxxxx
That works for me.

·4 months agoIf the "OAuth authorization flow completes successfully," then the following is not helpful.
here are two different types of tokens: a long-lived token for the seller account (refresh_token), and a short-lived token for standard API calls.
To obtain the short-lived token, the endpoint `identity/v1/oauth2/token` must be called using a POST request, passing the required scopes and the `refresh_token` as parameters for authorization.
API calls made using the `refresh_token` will not work.
